I just picked up this new toy. I have to say that I get a pretty big kick out of it, despite it's current lack of practicality. Eventually, I plan to SBR it, but until then, I'll probably throw on one of these

and a stock.

Who had the draco in stock? I ended up going with the traditional 5.5 hider. The one with holes is going to be a fireball MF'ker

Bought it from a future minister on Armslist. Seems like they are becoming harder and harder to find, so I jumped on it. Besides being as dirty as that WASR I sold you (sorry about that), it was/is in great shape.
Looks nice!!
Does the rear trunnion have the holes for the underfolder or is it still virgin?
Yea that flashhider is gonna throw some serious flameballs!!

Thanks... virgin rear trunnion. An underfolder would be cool, but an Ace stock would definately be easier and more pleasant to shoot.
The flames are half the fun... I don't think it can produce any more fire than my short barrel PSL.
jreifsch80, I could probably part with the brake if you'd like it. I'll bring it to Jim's build on Saturday.

So, here are some pictures of the work. I'm one of those guys who is never really done with a project, so I'll probably end up tinkering on it some more, but this is how it looks now. The "flash hider" (flash enhancer) is pinned and welded. My buddy who did the welding also did a little bit of a seam weld, and I left most the weld visible, to avoid any confusion about the permanent nature of the attachment. The stock is secured with hex bolts and nuts. It really feels nice, and will be awesome once I have the money to go the SBR route. Thanks for the help, AK nerds.

I should also say that I put in a tapco FCG, to add required compliance parts.
Loks good sofar!!!
What did you use to stain the handguards?

Thanks. To stain, I used minwax "Sedona Red" 222, followed by a few thin layers of polyurethane. I think I may end up either ditching the wood in favor of a rail and foregrip, or switching the stock to a Ace skeleton stock, which resembles the Galil stock. I need to either go more modern or more traditional. It looks a little funny with the wood foreend and billet stock.
It would be a great candidate for a nice rail setup. And the ace folder is ideal.
If your goins to keep it on the traditional side I have seen guys adapt the triangle folders from kvar-the ones that has the piece that you can slide in like a regular stock.
Or you can make an adapter to make a wood folder

I'm ok with breaking from the traditional look on this one. The wood is just on there because that's what was handy.
You might get a kick out of this... http://m14forum.com/foreign/112856-psl-short-barrel-side-folder-build-project.html ... he did a nice job of adapting wood to an AMD side folding mechanism. Pretty cool looking franken-gun.

The A-Kmanator is legend. His builds, besides being super cool, are art. I love the adjustable gas block he did. There's a commercial version that looks like brick but he managed with a regular one.

Yep, everybody should have a pimped out AK.

This was done to a fubared WASR I got it cheap from an unhappy owner. It was canted so bad the gas piston rubbed and it fed unreliably. A little work and it's fine. The color is uneven since I parked it in one piece without realizing it wouldn't fit so well in the rain gutter full of Black Oxide. it originally came with a Tapco side-folder I'd sell cheap.
I wish Akminator or somebody else would make those adjustable PSL gas blocks. It would be cool to be able to shoot any ammo in them.

Agreed! My PSL also seems to be pretty picky about mags. I have 5 mags and only 1 feeds 100% all the time.
