Now that the forum is back up (thanks to all those who keep it running btw):

There's a few (5+) guys here that have gone to Paul's (PG Firearms Training) CCW class, myself included.

That CCW class is great, just classroom, out by the airport, convenient evening times, and it was a 'requirement' for me to take a class taught by an active LEO. Paul has also taught contract training for other agencies, so his knowledge base is pretty wide... Last but not least, he offers a great deal for forum members, you just have to let him know when you're emailing him about signing up.

Moving on...

What I really wanted to talk about was his Adavanced Pistol course I took last weekend. I've never had any formal training, but I consider myself a decent shot and I've read a few books and websites on form, technique, mindset, etc. There was a cancellation and a no-show, so I got the range and Paul to myself (lucky for me, not so lucky for Paul). The range is out in rural Brighton on some private property. There's quite a few lanes setup, maybe 8 or 9... He brings out a second instructor if there's more than just a few people coming out for any one class, which is definitely a plus.

We tackled everything from base-lining my grip and shooting ability to shot placement, drawing from concealment, tactical reloads, combat reloads, offhand shooting, one hand shooting, disabled/offhand draw, misfeeds/malfunctions, cover/concealment, 'slicing the pie', close quarters point shooting (awesome), multiple assailants, moving while shooting, and at the end I worked on my hearts/minds speed a bit as well. I brought 200 rounds and I probably could have shot another 100 if I had them. It was nice to practice some of these drills cold as well though. I definitely learned a lot, and definitely found some things I need to work harder on (I'll learn to use a real mag pouch for the next class, no more pocket fumbling for me!). Admittedly, I could use another entire class shooting from cover/concealment, I tagged Paul's barrier a 'few' times. Slice that pie thinner, woops, too thin...

Bottom Line: Good guy, great class, I want to go again.

Would anyone be interested in getting together for a Colo AR15 Club Class? I bet we could get a good deal on a two day class... Advanced pistol 1 and 2? I'd like to get to know some other shooters, and while the 1 on 1 was a real benefit from me (Thanks again Paul!)... I bet more issues would come up with a few more people there, and thus more opportunities to learn. I'd be happy to be the middleman and talk to Paul if we have a few (5 or so?) guys interested. I'm not sure how regularly he does carbine and shotgun classes, but that would be a hoot too... Maybe we could even have some free range time for some of our other toys after the class, let's get creative here...

Post up if you're interested, I'd love to go back out there with some of you folks!

Here's his website to checkout: http://www.pgfirearmstraining.com/

If you see this, Thanks again Paul.

Cheers, and be safe...

Matt

PS I have a bruised reloading palm and multiple bites from seating the mag in my shooting hand too. Paul was really letting me push myself out there, and it's obviously something I need to work on some more...

Cheers,
m.

I'm very interested in a 2-day defensive pistol class. Just bought a M&P Shield in 9mm that I want to CC. Permit application submitted 4/17. However, waiting for CC holster from Garrett Industries to arrive - perhaps another 3-4 weeks, and need to pick up more magazines when they are available - only comes with a 7 rounder and 8 rounder. Ideal timing for me is about 6/20 or later.

Nice that's two... I make semi pro level leather holsters, if you get in a pinch finding something that fits you good...

Two magazines wouldn't be a deal breaker, but it sure was nice having more. I didn't have a proper mag pouch, as I wanted to practice what I'll carry (in my pocket), but now I'm convinced that is a mediocre solution for my extra magazine.
Cheers,
Matt

Just heard from Garrett today - they are getting in the gun model and magazines this week, so I should have that stuff by next week. Spare mags are just getting into stores now, but so far I'm only seeing the 7 rounders with the flush base. Prefer the 8's for the extra round and pinky rest.

Would be great to take a decent class this summer! Any others interested?

I'm interested but I don't know if my work schedule will let me go.
