No, not in technical or artistic terms.

This is some ammo I received as part of trade recently. It was loaded into an old 1911 magazine and the guy I got it from said it was his "duty" ammo (he worked security somewhere).

There were 7 rounds and they all looked pretty much like this one.

Notice how far the bullet has been pushed into the case from being repeatedly loaded into the gun. Best I can tell the bullet has been pushed in about 40% from where it was originally loaded. The jacket is also starting to separate from the lead core. Also, if you look closely, you can see a dent near the bottom of the case.

Luckily the guy never had to pull the trigger on one of these rounds. Probably would've felt like a ++P++! I don't know how much over-pressure something like this would cause but I'm guessing it would be substantial.

Just a reminder to you 1911 guys. Don't load the same cartridge into your gun more than 3 times or so. This is the result and it can be dangerous.

WOW!! How can you not notice something like this as you are about to load your weapon? Was he blind?

Who ever loaded it didn't know what a taper crimp is!! Or any crimp for that matter!!

It's factory stuff from Hornady. The guy loaded this thing into his gun probably a couple of hundred times over several years. Along with the other 6 cartridges.

I think Hornady could'a welded that bullet to the case and the result would'a been the same. Taper crimps only hold up to so much dumbassedness.

Hmmm needs to learn to rotate or shoot his ammo out. I bet he cycled that mag for years....

For sure. Were these supposed to be factory rounds?

Yeah, Hornady factory ammo.

I tried to press the bullet into the case a little further and it just won't go. I'm assuming the powder is completely compacted under the bullet.

thanks for the reminder. I'm really good about checking (and not multi-loading rounds), but never hurts to double check every now and then.

Don't forget to post up some pictures after you fire that round.

(I would have put some sort of cute picture after that sentence to let you know I am kidding but they are still working the bugs out after the big crash.)

I have 7 rounds of lightly used Hornady ammo for sale if you're interested.

dang, that right there is not good! lucky for him he never had to shoot his duty weapon. I am surprised there wasn't any qualifying or something that he had to do where the ammo would have been used.

Holy crap. If I was to make a guess, I would say that that guy never actually fired that gun. Why would you go back to the same ammo in the mags and fire something else? Also, I can not think of any reason to chamber a round and take it out, over and over again. My mind is spinning just trying to figure out what set of conditions would bring this about, and also what the hell kind of "security" company could he have worked for that would allow someone to be armed without any shooting training that requires them to frequently be proficient on their weapon.

Ok, so here is a box of .243 Remington cor-locs I opened up last week. Box is about 5 yrs old.

Long story short, my old man came out to see his new granddaughter and brought my Ruger M77 mark II out for me and any ammo he had stocked up. Got this rifle when I was 11. First deer rifle......sorry I'm trailing off.

So found this shell right away.......

I have dropped a box of .308 ammo and had this happen. I have never dropped any pistol ammo and seen it come out looking like hammered ass like the OP.

I had never seen one till last week when I opened the box.

That's why I was surprised with the op's op!

That is odd timing. In order to get my .308 to do that it sustained one of those slow motion falls where I made several attempts at catching it juggling it like an idiot and ultimately ended up spiking it into the ground with twice the force it would have endured otherwise.

A friend inherited his dad's pistol , bullets weren't set back. They were green and gunky. It likely would have only went bang once. Some gun owners are not as enthusiastic as others. Same thing happens with cars.

I had just discovered something like the first post in my 1911 last week. It'd been cycled into the chamber about 8 times or so. The reason you would do that to a round is that it is expensive SD ammo, and you practice with Less expensive FMJ ammo (after testing the SD ammo for reliability of course).
