Let's see, I've shot it twice, very accurate, great carry size, just the fit wasn't for me. Unfortunately I'm still looking....
Very nice little pocket gun. I have about 700 rounds through mine.
I need to get some night sights for it before I start carrying it.
I'm still on a "list" for one!

I was able to put maybe 50 through mine last Sunday at my South site trip and Ill echo some of the earlier comments. its got a good snap to it. The trigger is heavy when compared to my 229 so follow up shots tend to shoot off target some durning 2-4 shot bursts.
I just need more time with it, but as a carry weapon its awesome. I can front pocket carry in jeans and no one is the wiser.

I've been trying to convince my wife that she would really like the Shield. Whether or not she will, I do not know. I just really want one.
ETA: Just picked one up today at Tri-Lakes Shooting Supply in Monument. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but hopefully will soon.

Anyone know of any ranges in the north denver metro area that have the 9mm Shield available for rent? Or South metro, Denver proper, etc. Would like to give it a try before I buy it (assuming I ever see one for sale).

You won't see one for rent anytime soon- most shops are gouging buyers due to their desirability and rarity. 1300 rounds thru mine so far- it's perfect.
How bad are folks gouging for these things? I can sell them for about 410 when I can get them.

I finally got to go out and shoot my Shield yesterday. Man, it is pretty sweet. Put about 200 rounds through it. The trigger reset is much more positive than my M&P 45.
Although, there is a small click right before the trigger reset, sort of a "phantom reset". Anybody else have this on their Shield?

I know these are hard to get right now, but has anyone seen any out in the wild for sale recently? If so, which store? Looking for 9mm only! (no hate for the .40, I'm just keeping my pistol calibers to 9mm and .45)
I've finally gotten work and steady income, so I can release some of my "slush fund" that I've held in reserve for just this occasion.
Also interested if anyone knows of any firing ranges that have the 9mm Shield available for rent. If possible, I'd like to try before I buy! Thanks!!

Yeahhh!! They supposedly have a few in stock still (both 9mm and .40) and they had just a gargantuan stock of firearms in general. It was like a candy store, coming from CA where "showrooms" are 20-ft of wall with a few ARs if you're lucky. Very strange as well to just wait 20min while they did background check, as opposed to 10 days, paying $25 for the "privilege", and then having to show sometimes 3 different forms of ID, depending on where you go).

If it wasn't for a few shit heads and sky high prices on most new stuff, Specialty would be a cool place. Gotta love their prices on used stuff, damn good deals there sometimes.
With a large inventory they have most anything one could want.

I didn't think the prices were too bad, compared to CA at least. Most places there rape you every chance they get. I didn't see too many of the rifle prices, though (they were far away up against the wall, and most of the time the tags were turned towards the wall of course)
The 4 people I interacted with there were friendly, helpful, and patient, although I suppose the friendliness is a CO thing.
Random Question: Does anyone do the manufacturer new-gun registration cards? Perhaps fill out only some of the stuff (leave out the serial number?)

Is there any firsthand experience with this firearm. The reviews all are very positive, but I would like to hear from you.
Thanks.
I have one, love the gun. Although sometimes it seems like it takes an act of God to put the last round in the mags! Put some talon grips on it, love them too!

I bought my wife one for her carry gun the only problem with it.... I'm the one that carries it. I keep getting the "look" when I pull it out of the safe and tuck it in. I'm waiting for the day when I take it from the safe and I get the "cough cough" with a outstretched hand

Of course I'm crazy about Glocks but I do love my Shield! Very easy and light to conceal. No need to carry IWB anymore. Finally! It shoots and functions flawlessly. Trigger reset is actually quite nice. Close to that of a Glock. ...never thought I'd say that about a S&W.
Dear Glock, please make a small single stack Glock soon. I said please!

I keep reading this thread...........[Bang]
I kinda gave up on the compacts after a few.
My favorite compact was the Kahr PM9. But I sold cause I would always carry my G19.
So.....those familiar with the Khar, G19, Shield; How does the Shield compare to the G19/Khar?? More like the G19 or the Khar????
Cause I'm intrigued!!! [ROFL1]

I think the closer Kahr to compare the Shield to is the CW9. CW slightly longer/taller/thinner, but close. Shild similar to G18 but shorter/thinner. Proably closer to Lc9 in dimensions.

I own both and they are both great guns.
I am a big XD fan so of course I love the XDs. Love the grips, and it feels great in the hand. Recoil is not bad at all for such a small gun. I haven't had any problems with mine in particular but if you look on the XD forum there are a lot of problems being reported. I do have issue chambering a round sometimes when manually racking the slide. The manul says to always use the slide release but that is not always practical. It still worries me to use it as a carry gun but I will continue to evaluated it. I haven't had any kind of mis fires of FTF but I worry about having to clear a jammed round if it did happen in a self defense situation.
The shield has been flawless, no issues what so ever. I honestly am not a big fan of the grips on the M&Ps but that is just personal preference. They seem a little too rounded for me and I prefer a more agressive texture. I put a hogue handall jr on it and that worked great for me.

I got my Shield about a month ago at Sportsmans.
$399 - 5% discout +tax = $409 OTD
They fly off the shelf as soon as they show up. I called on Thursday afternoon to see if they were getting any in on the Friday shipment and was able to catch one.
.
Got my .40 the other day at Adamson's - 3 month wait list. Haven't shot it, but dry firing there is a large buildup of trigger pull / creep and then significant over-travel. Makes it nearly impossible to press off a jerk-free shot.
I don't remember this problem with other full size M&Ps I have shot ... Any one else with an idea?

Been shooting my 9mm shield and it is accurate for a small 9mm. I added the rubber Talon grip and it really mproves the handling. The only thing I don't like about the shield is that I can't shoot my standard carry load the Ranger 127 grain +p+. The barrel throat does not adequately support the case and the fired cases have a large bulge. I am going to have to try some +p loads to see if they are better.

Hmmmm. I too have been considering the XDS and both caliber Shields because my Kahr P9 manual says that same thing about only using the slide release. I LOVE my P9 but that really bugs me. Now that I know it's the same thing with the XDS the Shield just went higher on my list. The other thing I like about the Shield is the safety. Most of my pistols are DAO with no safety and that's fine for OWB but for pocket or IWB carry, that extra fumbling with stress added concerns me with these little DAO pistols. I read about a lot of accidental discharges with Glocks being reholstered into IWB holsters and they weren't noobs shooting themselves either.
Now I have to choose between .40 and 9mm Shield. Does anyone know how the .40 Shield and the XDS compare to each other recoil wise?
As for the rental situation, I was at Firing Line yesterday. No Shields but they did have the XDS in their rental fleet.

The factory trigger in my new Shield broke at 6.75 lbs. It dropped to 5.5 lbs after installing a Pro sear I had leftover after going Apex in my 5". Reset seems shorter and more distinct with Pro sear, too. Functioned perfectly in first range session with various ammo. +P is very manageable in the Shield, and it cycled soft reloads just fine. The safety seems to be improved from an earlier model I tried. Was able to flick it on and off no problem with my strong hand thumb.
Edit: A subjective comparison of the Sheild to other subcompact's I've owned or shot extensively. Top of the list is best:
M&P 9c, G26, P2000SK - Very accurate and reliable service-grade pistols that run with fullsize guns at speed. Hold 6" groups at 15 yards off hand.
Shield 9mm: Seems to run with the top tier at speed, but harder to shoot at longer distances. Held 12" at 15 yards with a little more effort.
Kel Tec PF9: Brutal recoil, but reasonably accurate at 7-10 yards. Very hard to shoot at distance, and not exactly a speed demon with the long DA trigger. Flawless for me, but two less experienced shooters managed to get ejection failures by limpwristing. No firing pin block safety never sat right with me. Thin and light for carry.
Kahr PM9: Handles recoil better than PF9, but mine started light striking and needed new barrel & slide in less than 400 rounds. Similar accuracy as PF9, and also hard to run at speed with DA trigger. Kinda thick relative to its size.
Ruger LCP: 100% reliable with myself and several others, but very difficult to shoot fast or accurately. Not a confidence inspiring carry for me. Takes lots of concentration to hold groups at any distance.
I have never seen a OD one before? Love the OD and Tan polymers [Beer]

Pretty sure the store name is OD Green Supply. I don't think that the poster saw an OD gun, don't think they make them yet.
Took my 40 Shield to the range yesterday and put 100+ rounds through it. The trigger over-travel was not an issue. It did seem to get better as the session went on.
For a little thing, it's a tack driver (on a 1.5-2" tack head at 7-10 yards [Coffee]). Recoil is a non-event. Small grip with giant paws is my biggest point to get used to.
All in all, and excellent addition to the M&P line.

Okay . . . got to shoot my new 9mm Shield for the first time today.
First, I almost didn't buy it. I was expecting it to be somewhat smaller. Having not seen it in person before being called in from the waiting list, all I had to go on was the hype, popularity and various reviews. I even saw a thread (I don't believe it was here) where many, many people compared it size wise to a Kahr PM9. I put it next to my P9 (the next size UP) and they're virtually the same. In some dimensions the Kahr is even smaller, some only slightly larger. They're essentially the same. I'm now wondering what those PM9 owners were smoking.
So I put a hundred or so rounds through it today. Very pleasant recoil, very good accuracy. I had no trouble consistently hitting 6 inch plates at 25 yards. I liked it equally well with the flush or the extended mag. I had only one issue and that was a jam with some Ranger 124gr +P ammo. I shot it along with a Walther PPS and they were very similar except the Walther's trigger was far nicer on initial travel. The initial travel of the Shield's trigger is very "crunchy" for lack of a better term. Once you're past that it's great, just like the PPS. I'm hoping that goes away or can be addressed. The trigger was another thing receiving enormous praise. If they're all like mine then there's another head scratcher. Maybe I'm too picky!
Overall I do like it. I have to do some more shooting with it to make sure that jam is a 1 time event but otherwise it looks like a keeper.
