Finally got it all put together. Thought I would post up a picture. Now I need to find some time to go sight it in and make sure it runs. I've never had a 14.5" barrel that had the mid-length gas port. Not sure if it is going to run with my "H" buffer or not. Hopefully I'll find out soon. [Awesom]

What did you do with your old dissipateor barrel??

Sold it. Decided I would rather have the 14.5" instead. I had it listed in the "for sale" section. Twice in fact. Once before and once after the great server fiasco.

What kind of fore grip is that Ray?

Looks good so far

VLTOR CASV-M

It would probably look pretty sweet with some sort of short barrel on it. Oh, well.... maybe some day.

Very cool, look forward to the finished pics. I just put together a 14.5 and really like the way it handles.

Looks good Ray. Similar look to my Noveske 14.5, which is finally together minus any optics. (Need to put funds together for ACOG)

The barrel arrived yesterday. Just ordered the last couple of small pieces from Bravo Company. Hopefully I can get the barrel over to Bert so he can pin my front sight base for me soon. I'll get some pictures up when it's done.

My "collection" is finally starting to settle in where I want it. Hopefully, you won't be seeing too much from me in the "for sale" section for a while.

Thanks. I like the looks of it. Looks a little less like every other AR out there. If that's even possible.

My 14.5 BCM runs like a top with a standard Lmt carbine buffer in it, and I really like the feel of the shorter barrel.

I am going to try mine with the "H" buffer first. If it has any issues cycling I'll drop a standard buffer in it.

I remembered looking through this thread, I just remembered you said this. I did pretty much the same except in FDE. Gotta to tell you I had already planned my re-build before I saw your build......... "I did not copy you. I promise" [Tooth]

It is hard now a days to have a complete build not have something that looks like someone else's

Another thought you could do is an adjustable gas block, I believe you can use it to tone down how hard it cycles, if I am understanding the way it can work. Maybe someone with more experience can chime in. I did one for my .300 BLK to make sure I can get it work with all types of loads. I did a Kies which was $35, but wish I did the PRI now, still only $70.

Nice! Makes me want to get rid of my 16" for a 14.5". I really like that handgaurd, too many people with the Magpul MOE handgaurd.

No matter what you do to an AR style rifle, there will probably be quite a few out there that look just like it. I mostly chose the VLTOR handguard for a couple of reasons:

1. I like the way it looks.
2. It was easy to install.
3. I don't need a quad rail for my needs.
4. It feels good in my hand.
5. The price was right.

This thing was put together to be light and simple. I won't put an adjustable gas system on it. It will most likely run just like I have it and if it doesn't I'm sure it isn't anything I can't easily fix with a different buffer/spring combo.

Yeah pretty much my thoughts of why I went with it as well. I don't like or need all that real-estate or weight with a quad rail. You forgot to add it also strengthens your system by running and mounting on your flattop, and easy easy access to the bottom of the barrel without removing the whole thing.

I am also impressed with the IMOD stock, great cheek weld. You did MUR upper as well didn't you, I like mine but didn't fit in my receiver block perfectly.

Did you buy the cheaper "light" version without all the add on rails? I would have, but could not find one in stock in FDE so I spent the extra $40 for the regular version. I have two of the medium and two of the small rails I am not going to use them all if you need a rail let me know.

I did an adjustable because I went with .300 BLK and the barrel was advertised as "tweaked" for Sub Sonic and was suggested by the maker to use an adjustable gas block when using supersonic loads. I have heard cycling issues with gas systems close to the end of the barrel (like a dissapator) an adjustable gas block can help. Why I suggested it.

No. It's just a standard upper.

Yes. Mine only came with the small piece for the top rail that goes right at the front and one extra small rail that I am currently using to mount a vertical grip.

I appreciate the offer. I will keep it in mind. [Beer]

An adjustable gas block makes sense on a 300 Blackout since you have the option of shooting standard velocity as well as subsonic ammunition. I always appreciate any advice anyone gives me. Thanks. [Awesom]

I had to drop down to a carbine buffer in my 14.5 middy, but that was only so I could cycle steel cased with better reliability. I tried a H and a spikes tactical t2 or whatever it's called. Those worked fine with brass and the felt "recoil" was very minimal.

Have you tried yours out yet?

ray1970

Finally took it out for it's maiden voyage. I only put 100 rounds through it but it cycled just fine with the "H" buffer. The empties went into a neat little pile about eight feet away from me and slightly behind me.

I really like the Vltor handguard system except I had to be different and went FDE. :)

Cool Ray, I love how you were the only one at the range at least that is what it looked like, the way I like it. Hate when it is crowded. I need to go slay some paper and test my 2 new builds. My 5.56 is almost 6 months old and unfired. My 300 BLK is a month old, also have an XD9 and an LC9 since xmas untested.

Yep, had the whole range to myself for the entire two hours I was out there. [Awesom]

Sounds like maybe I need to invite you along next time I go out shooting Skully. If you are safe around firearms and you aren't a total douche bag maybe we can make it happen sometime. [Beer]

[B]DOUCHE BAG An individual who has an over-inflated sense of self worth, compounded by a low level of intelligence, behaving ridiculously in front of colleagues with no sense of how moronic he appears. Nope not me, I have low self esteem, but I was a class clown in my youth, but years of depression and medications have changed all that....................... [Coffee]

Juz kidding, but definitely not a douche bag.

I have been shooting all my life and consider myself very safe.........taught by the best teachers in the world, my dad, and grandfather who was a 20+ year veteran and park ranger.

Thanks for the offer, I might have to figure out how to take you up on that. I assume you are a member of the Colorado Rifle cub? How do you like that range over some of the local ranges and the amount of driving you have to do?

A couple years ago after bad experiences with douche bags at clubs and public ranges I went to taking it to remote areas away from the freaks. I haven't................shite gone plinking in like a year almost, sheesh. This is what happens with work, kids, wife and no time......................

Back to the subject of your middy build, did you ever figure out what you are going to do for a red dot??? I noticed you were just using irons at the range.

Yes, I'm a member. I like it out there. Never too crowded. Just how I like it. Not exactly sure what you mean by "local ranges" for me to compare it too. It is exactly 50 miles from my house to the range and takes me less than an hour to get out there. Maybe my job has spoiled me (I usually commute anywhere between 75 and 200 miles each way depending on the day) but I don't find a 50 mile drive all that far away.

Still haven't decided on an optic yet. Just wanted to get the iron sight dialed in and make sure if functioned. Leaning towards an Aimpoint at the moment. Maybe a Comp M2. I think I can find a 30mm mount for it that will put it at the proper height to cowitness.

It looks like a nice place and have been checking their website out. I have been weighing that one and Trigger time indoor range in Longmont for my future membership. Would like the option of outdoor openness or indoor during cold months.

I meant out of most of the local ranges it is one of the farthest to drive from N Metro other than the place Buckaroobonzai is talking about in Bennett.

I know what you mean, I use to drive all over Metro Denver in my last job but got out of that field for a little bit. I use to hate the 4pm meetings in south Aurora and coming home to Broomfield after ward. The farthest I ever had to drive was one on my caseload in Pine Co...................... at least it was a pretty drive. [Beer]

I was thinking of moving my TRIJICON to my scatter gun and buying an M2 clone from Primary Arms and using an A.R.M.S. #22M68 mount without the spacer. It looks like it will 1/3 co-witness on top of the VLTOR handguard system.

I found a pic of an AIMPOINT with the A.R.M.S mount on a VLTOR handguard, will definitely 1/3 co-witness unless my eyes are deceiving me.
