First time i forgot a cleaning rod too.

I once had a cleaning patch that apparently got trapped in the flutes in the chamber on my HK91. Didn't realize it was in there until I was at the range and went to chamber a round and it wouldn't go. I too didn't have a cleaning rod that day. Fortunately I had a multi tool and my truck had a radio antenna. I took the antenna off my truck and used it to dislodge the patch.

Yes they were reloads, same reloads that I have shot out of the same gun for 2 years. Probably around 5-6000 rds.

I have got a sneaky suspicion that the brass didn't extract due to the chamber being FILTHY. Cleaning 22 rim fire guns is very important and often over looked. I think you got lucky with just having a failure to extract. You could have gotten a out of battery discharge do to the chamber being so dirty a case would not be able to chamber.

Exactly right! No the ammo's fault, this will eventually happen to any .22 if you don't clean them. Period!
