Anyone know of a good place to buy wheat in bulk at a good price?

I bought some a while back from whole foods. I had to pre order it cause i bought like six 50lb. bags at $50 per bag a couple years ago. Get the hard winter wheat for storage. http://store.honeyvillegrain.com/hardredwheat50lb.aspx http://www.ncwheatmontanacoop.com/order/hardredwinterwheat50lbbag-p-196.html

Might try going to a grain elevator. Occasionally they will sell small amounts to folks.

The Montana Co-op is the closest to the real "market price" of wheat. Wheat is trading on the boards at $6 per bushel. That's 60 lbs, not processed or washed, but lots of potential flour. It kills me to see folks paying a buck a pound.

Go to the grainery in Briggsdale, Colorado. Very reasonable price, fresh local product, and very nice people to deal with. The next best thing to ordering directly from the farmer. Be sure and ask for the clean wheat - where they've removed most of the rocks and bugs. Now the important next question is what type of a wheat grinder do you have? The hand crank ones do not do a very good job. Get an electric with a good warrenty!

The http://staffoflife.biz/index.php - taste of life - staff of life has twice a year orders for Montana grain. It's is located in Monument
18965 Base Camp Road, A4
Monument, CO 80132

I bought some organic grains and a few other items. Up side - cheaper than most in Colorado Springs - down side - for the twice a year gain orders you have to pre-pay with cash - or check before the order is placed.

They may still do once a month orders from Azure standard - but there are delivery and handling charges which makes it not quite as good of a deal http://www.azurestandard.com/

Depending on where you live - you might be able to buy directly from Azure Standard - or find a local group of folks that band together and place an order. I know of a few facebook groups that do just that.

Call him first
99% of his business is by the ton he keeps no inventory bagged
It takes a week or two get it bagged ( it is not high priority for him) so call for quote and to get it bagged in 50lb bags (60lbs is a bushel) He might have a mininum
If you have him bag it up please pick it up so you dont screw it up for everyone and have him say bagging is too much trouble!
What you are looking for is food grade hard red winter wheat for long term storage
Nice guy,cool business.
He has beans too.

Fedex'd right to my door for a very reasonable charge $11.43 Ground Shipping (gets better if you buy 2 or 4 at a time).

$19.98/45lb and a free 6 gallon bucket. And I don't even have to go anywhere.

Thats a good deal assuming the 02 is displaced somehow which it must be for a thirty year shelf life. Is that stocked in sams stores?

No unfortunately, you have to get it online, they also don't ship it to the store for pickup either. :-(

Another thing I don't care too much for is it isn't in mylar bags inside the pail. But hey, it honestly saves gas to have it shipped right to me. Also If you buy straight from Auguson Farms that is a 43 dollar pail of wheat.

That's pretty good.
They do have the small pails (26#) at the walmart here. It's more expensive, think it was $25-$30. There was a small section of #10 canned stuff.

That's on the other side of the mountains! Meh, Maybe I need a road trip. Any good microbreweries to visit there? Ohhh that's off topic... well not really cuz if I MALTED the bulk wheat I bought, going to a brewery in Rifle, I could do research on new brew to make. yeah, I'm sticking to that.

That is the shipping charge for each bucket. I put 10 in my cart and they wanted $111 to ship it. [Rant1]

10???? OMGosh I only buy like 2 at a time. Last time it was under 20 dollars for me. However 10 6 gallon pails take up a lot of space. too bad they don't have a freight option LOL.

edit: $58.70 for 2 pails (90 pounds of wheat) $0.652 per pound shipped to me. September 2012

I'm thinking I may take a trip to the Sam's Club in Highlands Ranch and see if I can get them to order the bulk wheat. Just out of curiousity how many buckets would everyone go and buy if I could get them to stock it at $20 a bucket?

Anyone know how to relate wheat in pounds to volume? I have some 5 gal pails and am wondering how many pounds of wheat they will hold so I can place an order.

Here are the wheats they carry, not in 1 bulk container, but offer in bulk packs. They also offer bulk gluten free flours. If you were going to store in 5 gal buckets or mylar seal. Unfortunately i am out of touch with current flour OTC cost as we don't use it. When we do it is minimal at best, for now.
