View Full Version : Are we ever going to step in?

So I got online today and do what I do every day: Check email, log off Yahoo email, check the headlines on Yahoo, get on ar-15.co [Tooth]
That's when I ran into this (http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/mexico-drug-wars-49-headless-dismembered-bodies-found-130658096.html) article!

Since 2006, when Mexico's President Felipe Calderon announced a crackdown on cartels, more than 47,500 people have been killed in drug-related violence.
Ummm Felipe, you're doing it WRONG! So this all got me thinking, first off, we've already had the violence spill over the border and some Americans have already been killed, but holy cow! Almost 50,000 people in Mexico dead? Maybe we should look at the problems a little closer to home and render aid to our neighbors to the south? Even if they don't want it? [Rant1]

I hope the fuck we don't. There is literally no way we can win in there.

I say beef up border security and just try to keep it on their side of the fence.

Every time I hear someone tell me how they are headed to Mexico for vacation I have to ask myself why the Hell would anyone willingly set foot into that country.

To echo Ridge, reinforce the border and keep it south. I for one am in favor of automated turrets and land mines, but that's just me.

this would be a big mistake.

Agreed, the cia could operate in the area possibly but their is nothing good to come out of a military operation unless it gets worse on our side. Better left alone for now. The mexican le/mil is a lot like the afghan le/mil.

We need another unwinable conflict like we need the department of energy.

Good point! They're pretty damn worthless... then again you can avoid trouble in Mexico if you have the right amount of money.

So better question, when are we going to deploy to the border to keep those animals in their own country?

Never. That would be racist.

kinda hard for their military to deal with it when most of them are payed off by the cartels. Just remember there would be no need to stop drug cartels if the demand for drugs wasnt so high.

even with documented non-mexicans with muslim prayer mats and other islamic items with them, this administration, and the last and plenty before them have no issue with the porous border and the violence that comes with it. heck, they're so hostile to border enforcement when someone in AZ tries to do their job for them they end up suing...

The piece of culture reference/history is missing from this thread.

My wife is from Mexico, she said you grew up in Mexico just to naturally not trust the police (they are the biggest crooks especially with foreigners) and definitely not the government. She said you cant even trust the postal service cause your packages would disappear.

Why? They were all paid to look the other way for so many generations and now the current president is trying to buck that trend. He is either brave or has a death wish. It is a fight that we cant/shouldn't really enter unless we figure out how to get rid of the demand for illegal drugs coming from those that are causing the problem, if they had no market their money would dry up. Defend our borders better, definitely..........

IN the meantime high paid ex military running security and training to the cartels and a government (under trained) soldier that is paid little money. The news media down there cant even be honest or they get beheaded.

My wife owns a condo down there and her parents are staying in there. Visit Mexico oh hell NO, not for awhile.

I wrote one of my master papers on Mexico being the greatest threat to our national security. Those numbers posted are low. I will have to dig out my paper to see what was reported last year when I wrote the paper.

Another thing is that there is evidence that the drug cartels are trading drugs/money for training in both bomb making and insurgent techniques. There was a spike in the amount of attacks as well as the sophistication of the attacks.

I agree with you Ronin, the border is too relaxed and offers too much of a target for our enemies as the war in Afghanistan begins to wind down.

Personally I don't think we will ever have a solution due to the politics involved. Until an attack comes through Mexico on a large scale, not just people here and there dying on our side of the border.

I see the reason as there are no real 'resources' that are being disrupted from Mexico, and immigration being such a hot political button, they won't touch it.

I guess I didn't see this one- my dad just went to Mexico a couple weeks ago for a golf trip (I know, right!?) and he said not once did they fear for their lives or encounter anything that looked dangerous. They went to Puerto Vallarta by the way.
And the second part, I had that idea years ago- all the land mines we recovered from Afghanistan would be put to better use on the border, and believe me there are hundreds of thousands... those Russians were busy! [M2]

You mean to tell me that the media is reporting lower numbers of deaths than the truth? Color me shocked! [Bang] There has been way too much evidence lately to show that we need to stop being such big pussies and actually secure the border, drugs are a big part, but guns, money, sex, terrorists, all that goes back and forth pretty freely and all leads down a road to ruin. My plans to secure the border would be a little too controversial though. Like that Wycleff Jean song goes: "If I was president I'd be elected on Monday and assassinated on Friday."

I want nothing to do with helping out Mexico. I would rather plant land mines and erect a monster electric fence that is guarded with sentry guns than to send our troops to that corrupt fuck-up of a country.

Jeeez, you can't even call an illegal alien an "illegal alien" with being called a racist or worse. Good luck in getting a politician to actively secure the border.

I saw O'Reilly interview this activist the other day who claimed that simply calling an illegal alien an "illegal alien" is a "hate crime".

The pussyfication continues.

Agreed! The only way I want to "help out" is by leveling the place.

Are you kidding me? Please tell me that O'Reilly tore him a new one! The stupidity and PC BS in this country is killing me...
But good news, a friend of mine from KS posted this picture today:

I'm in full agreement to this sentiment. My daughter had her honeymoon in Mexico (Puerta something or other) last October. I tried and tried to get her to choose someplace else - nope! In the end she was safe, but it might not have gone that way.

the only people safe in mexico are the obamas.. they are big supports of the cartels. they help advance his anti gun and welfare programs.

Yeah, O'Reilly litterally laughed out loud and tore her a new one. It was fun to watch.

Mexico is divided into two places.

Traditional Mexico that is typically incredibly dangerous for almost anyone to be in, but specifically for Americans/Caucasians of any sort.

Then, there is the tourist part of Mexico that has been essentially purchased by various resorts and travel companies to resemble Mexico in flavor and mild appearance, but to hide the truth of the current political and economic state.

You CAN be safe in Mexico theoretically, but I have no desire to personally risk that.

I lived 2 hours from Mexico for almost 15 years. I had friends go down to Rocky Point quite a bit with out too much trouble, but refused to go myself. Didn't feel the need. If I wanted a good burrito or cerveza, I could walk a half a block. :)

It is a problem, I feel bad for my family left in AZ. Won't be long before they are up here, hopefully. You can't even visit some of the national parks down there with out worrying about getting jacked. Tombstone is being persecuted with their lack of water. The gov't is really wrong on this border stuff. I do not seen any better way than raising and electrifying the fence. The citizen patrols are a good idea IMO.
