Stolen gun check?

I've been offered guns at cheap prices before and they've turned out fine, but how can i run the numbers before buying without having to worry about hassles?

There is a way, if the seller is game. Most local police agencies will do it for a fee, but they require you bring the gun to them. Where I live it's free. If it's stolen, the gun is recovered :roll: and the seller loses it period. He also gets to answer some questions. Not knowing answers is NOT a good thing. :roll: Karl.

How about running a serial number on a old rifle (1943)?
Can you see who the previous owner/s was or just if it's reported stolen?

If you run it through NCIC/CCIC, it will only give any information in regards to the item as far as being reported as involved in some type of crime. ie. Stolen, lost, used in a murder, etc. The NCIC system belongs to DOJ and it's purpose is not supposed to be to track guns/owners. If the law is adhered to, they're not really supposed to keep that info at all anyway. Some states track it, but Colorado is not one of those states. :roll: Not yet anyway. Karl.
