View Full Version : Every-day barrel -vs- special-occasion barrel?

I have nice dress watch that I wear for special occasions, another watch that I wear to work, and a 3rd watch that I wear on the weekends, and a 4th watch that I wear camping and shooting.

I do the same thing with clothes. Suits for special occasions, my work-clothes, and my weekend clothes. Also have dedicated camping & shooting clothes.

Shoes - same thing.

I've got a little pocket light that I carry on weekdays, and a different one for weekends.

Different pocket-knives for different occasions.

So my question is, does it make sense to have a "dress" barrel / rifle, and an "every day" barrel / rifle?

No
Beware the man with one rifle, for he probably knows how to shoot it.

Or he's just broke.

the "dress" rifle/barrel ends up a safe queen. 2 nice to shoot, great conversation piece. eventually you end up with the right balance of reliable go to guns. shi%^&*(can the "pretty" guns and invest in ammo, range time and maybe even a few good gun classes.

I'm just thinking...

Back when I had just the one AR-15, I put a nice (expensive) JP barrel on it, and then wound up "abusing" it in a 2-day rifle class. I'd have been fine with any factory carbine.

Did the same thing with my only bolt-gun. Nice Lilja barrel, great long-range performance until I cooked it, shooting too much, too fast.

So that's where I'm coming from.

Buy decent or good barrels as warranted and shoot the heck out of them. Use them up having fun and making hits, and replace them if and when needed. Why have super nice stuff that never gets used? Maybe that's just me...

I agree.
Use the nice stuff, buy more when you need it.
Otherwise, why have the nice stuff to just look nice? makes no sense.

Plus it makes you look more hard core.
