I think a lot of us are. Just been being patient since I'm sure the mods have bigger fish to try. Soon enough they will be back

Ya, no doubt. Ginsue and a few others alone took on a small army of spammers today. It's gonna be like that for a while till we can ride out the storm.

Ok forgive the question from a guy who has no idea now such things work, but why did the crashing of the server allow the sudden influx of spammers? Were there filters in place to block them? How do these guys know the "gates are down" so to speak?

When something like that goes down, you typically lose all your settings, addons, custom smiles, etc. Have to go around and pretty much build it from the ground up, with the exception being the backed up words members have typed here.

Yep we are working on all of it little by little. The spammers are absolutely out of control. I think we are whacking 50+ a day right now.

Sorry for the hassles everyone, we promise we will get there soon.

Fixed it for you.

By 0600 this morning I had over 30 to clean up (many had already been banned, but I was deleting them - gave up on that fruitless task. By my lunch hour there had been at least another 30 - 40. Haven't really checked since then -- going to it now.

Speaking in generalities here, in re-registering everything as it comes up, the site tells the web "hey, we're here". This is the red flag that spammers and spam bots have keyed in to look for and they hit sites hard. Some times this is so bad it causes a DoS (Denial of Service) attack and crashes sites.

Trying to stay ahead of these pricks is actually wearing me out.

Just did the count off of the registered Member ID #'s for May 15th...

170 registered users for the day...less than 5 (I think only 4) were legit members, the rest were spammers.

Damn! You're picking em off pretty quick then. Awesome job guys! I have no idea what you are really doing, but it must be a monumental task.
