This is going to be an intense summer.

It is something that has to happen and I feel bad for the families that lose
their homes and possesions, but in the end they chose to live in the mountains
and could have and should have taken better precautions to protect their homes
from fire. The ignitable tinder in the mountains is astonishing and is just waiting
to go up. IDK if I am cold hearted or what, but fires are inevitable in the mountains
and with the huge amount of fire prevention in the last 100 years, fires have
more dry tinder, will be more intense then when
mother nature naturally allowed them to happen.

Flame suit on..... no pun intended.

No, I agree. We live in the mountains and realize that its always possible. We have spent a lot of time and money doing good mitigation work. Fires will happen regardless so its up to the homeowners if they want to be prepared or not. The way this summer is shaping up it could be a bad one, hope for the monsoons.

It's one thing for natural fires to occur. It's another when they're started through the carelessness of stupid people.

Yes...we all choose to live where we do to one extent or the other. But how come no one ever says, "It sucks that your house got broken into but, hey, you chose to live in the city with all the criminals."

I say that, thats why I live on the mountains. :)

that's what cracks me up, the "Climate change" advocates say that more and worse forest fires are part of the result of climate change, BUT yet dang near all the forest fires are HUMAN caused. And it's amazing how many of the human caused fires start out as "controlled" burns that get out of hand.
I wonder if a guy could search and find what percentage of forest fires are "human" caused and what percentage are actually mothernature caused.

I couldn't have said it better, When was the last time we had a tragic fire that was set by mother nature. all in recent memory have been human, and most by either a firefighter or forest service worker of some type

Hayman, human caused,
Hi Meadow, human caused
North Fork, human caused
AZ , Chedeski Fire, Human caused
Az, 2011, the big one, my family members were evacuated, human caused

I don't call these wildfires, they are dumbass human fires, truth is a true "wildfire" occurs very rarely. Take the dumbass humans out of the equation and the chance of a forest fire goes down to near 0.

To think that your house is more likely to burn down in the city than in the mountains is just dumb. The number of house fires that occur in the city with the density of population far exceeds the number of house fires in mountain communities. your house is more likely to be damaged due to your neighbors house fire than to get caught in a wild fire.

truth be told areas like Bailey that have survived a wildfire or two are actually in better shape. I am of course sorry for those that have lost their homes in the Hayman and Hi meadow fires and the like, but in reality the amount of fuel that surrounds the Bailey community has been greatly reduced. Everything to the one side of Bailey has been burned out.

Lets add up the places that are dangerous to live and the reason why,

Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Tennesee, Etc.................Tornadoes...Well it was their choice to live there

Louisiana, Texas, Florida, Alabama, N Caorlina, S Carolina, Etc............. Hurricanes, well it was their choice to live there

Wisconsin, NY state, all of the North eastern states, Etc. ..................Massive crippling cold and snow. well it was their choice to live there

California,..................Earthquakes.......... . well it was their choice to live there

Denver.....................Blizzards.(remember 2003).................well it was their choice to live there

To not live someplace you love and enjoy because something might happen is just dumb, bad things happen all over the world. I would rather spend some time mitigating my four acres with a view than live in the city with the crime, traffic, smog, noise, neighbors so close you can hear you neighbors fart.

I'll take my view and my chances any day any time

I see folks tossing cigs out their window in Clear Creek Canyon all the time - on their way to/from Black Hawk. City folks not thinking...grrrrrrrrrr!

Hewlett Fire: Feds Say Colorado Wildfire Started On Camp Stove (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/19/feds-say-colorado-wildfir_0_n_1529486.html)

It was started by an alcohol stove apparently. I love my alcohol stove but you definitely need to be extremely careful with them.

sounds like Mr. Weber who started the fire is going to need a mental health counselor himself. fucking asshole....it's as dry as it has ever been and this guy is out using an alcohol stove. did he not hear anything about the last fire?
I hope they go after everything he has.

…people choose to live where there is hail.
…people choose to live where there are tornados.
…people choose to live where there is flooding.
…people choose to live where there are earthquakes.
…people choose to live where there are hurricanes.
…people choose to live near a bunch of illegals who break into your garage, steal your tools, and steal your neighbor’s truck.
No matter where you live something threatens your property, your life, or your family. Fire may be a threat, but I find there are far fewer threats, namely people, than living in my house in Aurora. It is nice knowing that my log splitter, tools, and tires sitting by my garage, etc. will actually be there when I get home unlike my previous residence where the illegals would steal anything not bolted down including my landscaping bricks (not to mention the yearly tagging of my fence by a bunch of worthless youth).

EDIT: I forgot this one...no point in spraying my apple tree in the front yard because the locals would actually come in my yard and pick the apples. Fire or no fire, there is no way in hell I would ever live down there again.
