All, the USAF unit I work for is having a "Gun Safety Event" at Dragonman's here in Colorado Springs on Friday, June 1st. (details will be posted as they are available).
This event is more than just a "day at the range" for those with firearms experience but it's a way to reach out to members of the unit, both active duty and contractor, to give them exposure to firearms that the USAF and the rest of their lives hasn't yet provided. In fact, other than a couple of times of qualification, I found out that our unit commander has basically NO EXPERIENCE with firearms.
The plan is for several of us (members of the unit) to bring variouos firearms - both handgun and rifle - and let folks shoot them. We'll be providing them with basic instruction on firearms and range safety but this isn't so much a class as a familiarization. Something to help them have a little fun while getting over their unfounded fears and enhancing their respect of firearms.
We'll be requesting that the members provide their own ammo so that those of us allowing the use of our personal firearms won't be on the hook for it.
Additionally, we will be requesting that attendees bring their own "eyes and ears", but we'll have extra ear plugs and a few extras safety glasses available.
What we need are about 3 firearms EXPERIENCED individuals to come out and help act sort of as RSO's and to provide one-on-one attention to those who may need assistance. Of course, good inter-personal skills will really help, as acting RSO's word will be law.
I will cover Dragonman's range fees and buy targets for anyone wanting to volunteer but I can't cover fuel fees to Colo Spr/Dragonmans (I'm poor).
I also ask that if volunteers have extra hearing protection headsets to please bring it.
Again, more details to follow. PM me if you can help.

Me too, it is month end in the I.T. world.
I hope that this event is tremendously successful for those who attend. Thank you theGinsue for the opportunity.
If you are still looking for people, I can attend and assist. I can bring some weaponry, pistols (9/45/357), bolt rifles, ARs if you are looking for more hardware to demo.

First off an apology for being late. Between traffic and a truck only firing on 7 cylinders the drive was less than fun[Bang]
A most gracious "Thank You" to Ginsue for setting it up and trusting us with his co-workers[Coffee]
They seemed like a good group of folks.
Great to see those I know and finally meet a couple I havent[Beer]
My highlights? The "steel shower" from the SlideFire was fun and searching for the gas plug and spring from my MSAR[ROFL1]
Embarrassing as hell, the Gunsmiths rifle was the only one to malfunction[Tooth]
Thanks again Thomas, I promise if you throw another gig I will be in a better mood...I'll take the bus[Muaha]

Today was a fine day. Got to meet several new folks, have a great time shooting, and man was it like what you always want a gun show to look at, just table after table of guns that you'd love to have. I shot a Saiga-12 that was hella fun.
The military museum tour was great too. I wonder if we could get 20-25 folks from here to commit to a day of going back there, getting the tour, then a couple hours of shooting.

First, I need to thank ALL of the members of this most excellent site for the very generous and overwhelming response to this request - you guys rock. I wish I could have used all of you who responded, but I had to select just a handful.
Next, I'd like to personally thank those who did attend today.

You gentlemen provided an amazing service to this military organization and helped to ensure todays event was (most importantly) conducted safely and the attendees had a great time. While some of them had some fine firearms, looking at the assortment of firearms from our site members put the look in their eyes of a 5 year old on Christmas morning.
Thank you all for allowing my coworkers the opportunity to shoot some great guns. I did take one of our members up on an offer to shoot an HK USP Elite. Oh man, that is one sweet shooter; thank you!
Special thanks go to TeamRico for giving the opening range briefing and calling the line hot & cold throughout the event, OneGuy67 for your amazing monitoring of the line during live-fire (I bet your kids don't get away with anything), and BPTactical for checking out that SP1 (will be getting the extractor upgrade from Bowers on my next Denver trip) and for, well, just for being so awesome.
Cofi & ChadAmberg, I also wanted to make sure I thanked you guys for the attention and assistance you provided on the occasions they needed it. While most everything functioned and flowed smoothly, there were a few occasions that required you to step in and you did. It did not go unnoticed!
While I was a bit disappointed over the attendance from the military folks (I was led to believe there were going to be a LOT of attendees), I think todays event was a smashing success and I'm certain they'll want to do this again. Once today's attendees get back to work and brag about today I think the next event WILL have considably more attendees. I'd also be willing to bet that some of todays attendees will be purchasing some new toys soon.
For those who had never met me before... I'm not quite what you pictured, am I? That's okay, I get that a lot. <grin>
So, once again, thank you all so very much and I know that if it were not for your participation, today's event would not have been as successful as it was. I owe you all!

Thanks for the invite, Thomas! I had a great time and it was nice to meet members I hadn't met yet.
The day was a nice break for me! I really enjoyed the museum tour and will most definitely go back for the 3 hour Saturday tour.
Your AF group was great to work with, were willing to listen to advice and coaching and one of the officers took some good natured AF vs. Army ribbing pretty well!
I'm most definitely in for the next one!
Damn, I wish I would of seen this earlier!
