Hi I know that the shavings are really good for starting fires in almost any condition, and if SHTF i'd want a nice sized block of this stuff, from what i have seen a little goes a long way with the stuff, so a good sized block should last a very long time lol.

Anyways do you guys know where i can get my hands on a good sized block of the stuff for a relatively decent price?

And incase you guys are wondering it's only extreamly flamable if in really small and thin pieces a large block could sit in a fire all day and not light on fire from what i understand.

Thanks for the help.

No, a block of Mag if it sits in a fire will go. I have seen humvee wheels go and go and go and go for over a day. Once te stuff goes you can't put it out. If you want it for fire starting, there are plenty of mag fire starters at outdoor stores with a flint on the back.

Magnesium aircraft wheels when they lock up and catch on fire are another situation where magnesium really burns.

I don't think anything can compare to an old Volkswagen engine going up in flames. An engine full of oil with flaming bits of magnesium dripping out the bottom.

I guess i just have to be more carefull on what i hear from websites... one of em claimed that MG wont lite on fire unless you take a blow torch to it lol.... I guess they lied hehe (http://theodoregray.com/PeriodicTable/Elements/012/)

Anyways it would be pretty interesting to see an engine like that go up... :o that would probobly be blinding....

And thanks for the PM wulf! Very helpful.
