My dad has to replace the secondary Oxygen sensor in his 2000 Subaru Forester. Does anyone know of a place online or store location that he can find one for cheap? I'm not sure what an Oxygen sensor usually runs in price.

I'd hit upullandpay. Downstream sensors don't do anything except monitor cat function, so used would be fine. Probably like $5-10 there

Agree with this. You can find just about any part there.
PartsTrain.com
Got my last couple of strut sets there. Pretty good pricing.

I've used rockauto.com before as well when it was work I could do myself. If not, I've used tmleadr03 and been very satisfied.

I wouldn't waste time on a used unit, who knows what problems it had. Cruise the mall parking areas in boulder. Find someone parking the ru follow them to see if it's a bar or eating place. Wait 10 minutes then cut it off using one of these

2 cuts and the tree huggers will thing their ru rebelled.

HAHA thanks Jim, and everyone else. My dad looked under the car and saw that the shop had cut all 4 wires, probably preparing to replace the thing and must have "forgot". They've been in and out of the shop with this car for 7 months and they just can't seem to get it right. I hope they finally get this car taken care of and get the F away from this shop. They suck.

I have never had to cut o2 wires to replace one. When they are done make sure it is a new o2 and they didn't just rewire it.

Just FYI, If the car is running fine, no change in MPG and so on, just throwing a code (0420?) iirc and has check engine light on, you might try just a can of Guaranteed To Pass fuel cleaner. Subaru computers have a real tendency to throw out this code which is a comparison of the up and downstream O2 sensors. My mom drives an 01 outback and I've done this exact thing 3 times in the last 4 years. Clears the CEL and drives just fine. You may have to have the code cleared at Autozone or someplace to make sure the code isn't stored.
Just my two cents. A ten buck additive once a year sure beats what they want for those sensors plus the install time!

If they didn't have the right socket, I guess cutting the wires would be one way to get the sensor out. But as a shop, they should have that kind of relatively inexpensive tool to do the job right. I would think at least...

The socket set is only about 40 bucks for all makes and model O2 sensors.
Even if they didn't have the socket, someone had to possess a 'Mexican speed wrench'
