I was tire kicking at gander in aurora a few days ago, and the dipstick's behing the counter were trying to sell a .357 sig to some guy and his buddy, and was telling them how they are over 3000fps. [ROFL1] I felt like stepping in and saying something but I just kept walking. should I have said something? or just let the uninformed consumer just learn his lesson the hard way like I did? he did buy it by the way.

.357 going 3000 fps...

I would've laughed so hard I'd get kicked out....

I can't go to the Thornton Sportsman's WHSE firearm counter anymore. It's hard to keep the mouth shut sometimes.

Only 3000fps? I thought they were faster. OMG, people will day anything to sound like they know it all. FYI customer... The ammo is more expensive than .45 ammo.

you should have jumped in and told them you thought they were around 4000 FPS and had inferno bullets that will set things ablaze.

Ha, what a joke. Thats faster than some of the 5.56 I shoot. I hate when people either lie or pretend to know what they are talking about

I find the f**ktards at Gander Mountain to be less informed than the uninformed people they are selling to.

what are the prices like. I can deal with ignorance if prices are good.

Yeah, the uneducated morons who work behind gun counters in these big chains make me sick. I probably get funny looks at Sportsman's when I walk by the gun counter with my fingers in my ears while yelling "LA LA LA LA LA LA!" If these panzy ass shipping companies or BATFE (whoever the responsible party is) would eliminate the hazmat fee for shipping powder & primers - I would just buy it on-line. It bothers me greatly when I go into a gun store and I know more about the product than the guy trying to sell it to me.

Come to think of it, a good reply to that idiot who made that statement might've been: "No silly, only H&K barrels forged by Valkyries can withstand that level of tolerences...duh, everyone knows that!"

Gander has by far the stupidest people working there out of chain stores. Customer Service is absolutely horrible as well.

I hate Gander Mnt. to begin with, way over priced on every thing!!! Hottest load I've loaded for my 357 Sig was 1300 fps. anything beyond that and your breaking or blowing sh*t up!! http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/lachen/laughing-smiley-001.gif

It took the guy at Gander three tries tohand me the correct box of primers when I asked for them by name number and type. I finally just had to say, no the blue box third from the left. I had the guy at bass pro tell me that .308 is a military sniper caliber only and not for hunting so they won't sell rifles chambered in.308. They are all just about as knowledgeable about guns as a car salesman is about the mechanical operation or drivetrian of the cars they sell.

I am so glad I didn't go to work for them...................... :D

I was looking for some part time work to help out a little with my lack of $$$$ and projects going on in my life. Thought working in the firearms area would be fun 20 hours a week.

The manager told me "I didn't have enough experience with firearms." yeah............. also learning the company is gung-ho with their at register extended warranty crap you MUST sell. The manager asked me what I thought about selling quotas.............you have to do what you are paid to do right? (I didnt tell him personally I hated that crap and stores to begin with)

I too am not impressed with their employees and knowledge, one of the stores ones that gave me the; "What the heck is .300 BLACKOUT?"

I tried to point out they were selling 420rd 62gr ammo can of 5.56 for almost a $75 more than everyone else................... I just got the "...........it goes on sale now and then."

All depends on who you get behind the counter. I used to work at a Gander store in MN on the side of my regular job (mostly for the discounts). We BY FAR had the highest amount of knowledgeable people in that store than most any others. Of course most of our knowledge was centered around hunting guns/gear/archery ect vs the more defense oriented stuff. But our in store gunsmith was REALLY a gun smith, and he used to run the development area for DPMS before he decided on a more laid back work life. You ought to see some of the sharps patterned rifles he'd built from raw materials 100% with the exception of springs, and screws, every piece was made by his hand and his machines.

We were often times tapped to go and train employees at new stores because of it. This was a store in a smaller town where hunting is a religion though and most of the employees truly had a passion for hunting, fishing, etc and the items we sold. We noticed a distinct pattern when we would train at new stores in more urban areas. The people by and large just weren't "into it", their eyes didn't light up at the newest and latest toys from the manufacturers, it was just a job, nothing more and that seriously affected their thirst for knowledge on the subjects and their desire to put people in the right gear.

Every now and then we'd find one like us, but they seemed few and far between, which really is too bad, but it's the nature of low paying retail jobs.

So you are telling me I could have gotten it for $75 instead of the $150 I paid for it there ? ( Face palm smiley )

Depends if you bought it on sale? :)

I was in there last week and they had a stack for $229.99 each.

Time and Relative Dimension in Space event. These things happen. It's complicated : )

If it isn't my money, or that of a family or close friend, what right do I have to interfere in the exercise of free commerce between two people of similar knowledge? Once you have observed any business use that type of practice, you as a consumer are now better armed to avoid being exploited.

Granny bought her pie at the A&P. She couldn't bake to save her life. She had no patience for pumpkins or dolts. Nothing got past granny : )

Be safe.

LOL This reminds me of an experience I had over at Bass Pro one day...I asked the fella behind the counter if he had any savage bolt guns chambered in. 223. He looked at me funny and said we dont carry anything in that chambering sine its a tactical caliber. He went on to say that bass pro refuses to sell anything tactical. I thought he was just joking trying to be funny or something, but he was serious.

I was looking at .22s at Sportsmans the other day and another guy was looking at .45 Glocks, and he asked what the difference between a Gen 3 and Gen 4 was. The monkey behind the counter said he didn't know of any differences. So I mentioned the grip on the Gen4 is smaller and the employee looked at me crosseyed and said he'd look it up. After playing solitaire for 5 minutes he comes back and says "no the frame is smaller so it's got nothing to do with the grip", then grasps the slide with two fingers.

For those of you who do support Gander Mountain...

Just heard this morning that Gander Mountain is banning NRA-ILA's grassroots events from their property. Seriously? They support hunting, firearms, shooting sports & then do that? WTF?
