I'm on vacation in Mexico, and just got word that Shadow died (my 15 year old dog). Ive lost my two best dogs ever, within six months. I'm hollow.

Sorry for your loss.
This hasn't been a good month for pets.
My wife lost one of her English Budgies a couple of weeks ago and my sister lost her dog a couple of days ago.
Its like losing one of your kids.

There is no pain so great as the memory of joy in present grief.

Man, I hate reading threads like this because I know the feeling. Such a bad way to find out on vacation too. No time is a good time but being away is especially difficult. My wife's boss had the same thing happen to them a few weeks back. I'm sorry for your loss. Don't worry about Shadow, I'm sure my Gixxer is welcoming him like only the way she could. He's in good hands now.

RIP

Pain in the loss of a loved one. Our dogs are dear to us, both the ones still with us and the ones who have passed.

Maybe when you have grieved and the pain has dulled a bit, you would consider someone who has a few new ones to love? I have no idea what his plans are, but starting out a new pup is always a joy.

I am truly sorry for the loss of Shadow. Every time I read a thread like this it breaks my heart because I know what you're going through...been there too many times to count.

I'm hopeful that Shadow can say "Hi" to Stella for me on the other side of the bridge.

I'll probably cry a few tears for you, too.

Thanks for all the kind words, guys. We're back in town now. Needless to say, the vacation sucked, but the void that's left in the house sucks worse. I'm sure my old girl Cica, as well as Gixxer and Stella are taking good care of Shadow now. I just wish I had been with him when he made the trip though.

So sorry to hear about both of your dogs! But new puppies are great grief counselors, and this is puppy season! I recommend two of them. Dogs need companions, I'll never have just one at a time again. Our two Beagles would be lost and heartbroken without each other.

Thanks man. I agree that dogs need dogs, and I'm concerned for our sole survivor, JD. We just can't bring ourselves to get puppies (as much as we'd love one), with all the shelter dogs waiting for homes. Our last few dogs have found us when we weren't even looking, and I expect our next one will find us too. They're usually pretty weathered, and probably not "adoptable" by most standards, but to be fair, that description applies to me as well. For now, I can't even think of looking.

Take your time man. It's been just over a year since we lost Gixxer and even though my wife wants another dog I still just can't bring myself to do it.

Shelter dogs are a good option too! I don't know about you guys, but even as much as I love my Beagles, if we lost one of them I'd be looking to replace her ASAP to fill the hole in our hearts. Not to mention a companion for the grieving surviving dog.

Just my opinion, but seems to me the best way to heal the hurt of losing a dog you loved dearly is to get another one you can love just as dearly, and get one quickly. At least that's what I'd want to do. Having dogs is just too cool, I don't ever want to NOT have a dog around anymore.

Just had to put my westy down in January. Its funny when I was younger I always had to be the tough one and do that chore, but damn it I still get choked up thinking about him (and all of them).

Take your time and pamper the last pup. I have 3 now and my wife keeps angling for another but I just can't do it yet. I agree with your comment about the Shelter pups, I have had a few and they have been awesome, they just need a chance and some love. Again sorry for your loss and if you need anything even just to bs about them pm me.
