View Full Version : What are the odds?!

First off, for those who don't know, I'm in Afghanistan. Today, we got an Operation Gratitude care package. It is a random package that this charity sends to our unit. They have some good stuff in them! I opened the box today and among the snacks and goodies, there was a letter. I opened the letter and GUESS WHAT!? IT CAME FROM AN ADDRESS ABOUT 300 YARDS AWAY FROM WHERE I GREW UP! A 6th grade girl named Rose wrote it, with a return address, asking to write her back. The odds of ME opening a RANDOM box like that, and it's sender being somebody who likely is going to the same high school I went to are extraordinary! So I wrote a quick note and mailed it to her, to say thanks and tell her how crazy that was that I get a letter from my small hometown. Just thought I'd share this with you guys. It made my day. :)
Small thing like this what keeps us moving!
ETA : be safe!
Awesome. Serendipity is a bitch - but it is wonderful when it works.
Thank you for your service.

Rose cute ?You're inquiring about the cuteness of a 6th grader. Hardly important.
Stay safe, Josh7328, and thank-you for your service!
Thats awesome, it was meant to be.

Rose cute ?
Know what I like about high school girls?
God's movement and all that...
Your wonderful commitment to our nation is recognized by a gift from a thoughtful young lady. Thank you for starting my day on a positive note.
Be safe. We'll leave a light on for you.
Know what I like about high school girls?
That they're significantly older than 6th graders?
Awesome! Means you can actually meet her and let her know what her letter meant to you. Be safe!

Grab a little nick-knack there in the 'Stan to take back to her once you return home safe. It will be a treasure she will cherish for the rest of her life and she'll be more willing to write to more deployed GI's in the future.
You'll have to let us know when you are rotating back CONUS so we can get a beer or something with you.
Thank you again for your service and PLEASE be safe and alert.
Send her some AK mags packed in cosmoline.
Rose cute ?
WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot? You read the OP's post and that is all you got? I think there are way better questions or comments than that.
To the OP: That is pretty cool. I'd say buy a lottery ticket but gambling is probably frowned upon over there.

Thanks for the replies and well-wishes, guys. Really? Is rose cute? You mean like "aww what a cute little girl" kind of cute, right? My parents still live there and my wife and daughter are just minutes down the road. I sent them the address to go say thanks for me. Is that weird?

Bring her back something nice, she will cherish it forever.
Talk about a small world! Take care and stay safe.
Letters like that allways made it worth while for me.
But thats a special one-couldn't get much better than that
Keep your head on a swivel and come home safe so you can visit her and say thanks in person!!
