The in-laws are going to bring their camper up for a month during the Summer and have offered to take the kids for a few days if the missus and I want to get out for a few days.

With that i mind, we're looking for recommendations for a good overnight out-n-back or through hike. We'd like to keep it within a couple hours of the Springs and probably keep it to ~15 miles total. We're set for gear and are in pretty good shape but we're not looking to set any mountaineering records.

We're just looking for some great views and some solitude. Some water on the way would be nice (so we don't need to pack it in; we have filters) and I wouldn't object to a nice mountain lake or spring on the far end too.

Any suggestions?

Check out Lost Creek Wilderness east of Tarryall Resevior.

There is a nice aspen grove on the trail towards McCurdy Tower about a mile up roughly that
I have always wanted to camp there due to its cool factor of being in a nice aspen grove,
like a battle scene in Conan The Destroyer when those cannibals attacked their encampment.

Mt Evans wilderness can make the loop or stay on one trail and back.
