Anybody else ever been? My wife and I went to our first Roller Derby in Austin, TX. It was awesome. The one in Austin is on a banked track, but the one here in CO is a flat track. Not quite as fun, but still pretty cool.

Saturday night was a double-header. The first bout was the Pikes Peak All-Stars vs the Sin City Rollers (Las Vegas, NV team). The second bout was the Pikes Peak Slamazons vs the Denver team the Wreckin' Roller Rebels. The Springs Teams won both bouts.

(Sorry for the crappy cellphone pics)

A girl I went to HS with is a roller derby girl now I guess. Haven't been to any of her matches though.

I always wanted to go but have yet to make it. Is it "real" or more like WWE and scripted?

Real, from the bruises I have seen on my friend very real.

No it's real. It's just like any other sport: there's rules, strategies, each person on the team has a position, etc. If you've never been before, it will probably take you about half a bout to get the idea of how it's played. But once you understand it, it's pretty fun to watch.

Yeah there were three girls that were injured on Saturday. 2 of them "looked" minor, the third one we could hear crying. She hurt her knee, and it looked pretty painful.

My ex got her two front teeth knocked out in a game when she played for the Bay Area Derby Girls. It was gnarly...

That girl got her training from a pro soccer team. I think she went down three times in total but returned to skate each time.

Banked track is WAAYYYYY better. But they don't do banked track in CO, unfortunately. If you get a chance to see a bout on a banked track, do it.

Coming to a soon-to-be-closed civic center near you!!!!

I heart PPDD.

Beer, moon pies and watching chicks smack the snot out of each other... what better way to spend an evening?

I heard that there is a banked track by my house - Marksheffel and HWY 24. I will check it out.

I'm almost thinking we're going to have to do a forum outing to one of the next matches...

Yeah, you're right. It's for the Missile Mountain Roller Derby (Team Bionic), which plays on a banked track. I didn't know they had one here (obviously). I'm looking at their website but can't seem to find out how much the tickets are. Next bout is on July 7th vs a team from AZ.
