Anyone know how to fix the finish on a Glock slide? I've tried Perma-blue, and Super-Blue that I got at Sportsmans. That Super Blue has worked on everything for me, from rifles, to barrels and hoods on a Springfield XD, to front/rear sights it always works amazing. I've got a big swipe across the slide on my Gen 2 model 21 from holster wear, and the Super Blue makes no noticeable affect on it. How do you fix this? I don't want to Dura-coat it; can this be re-blued?

Glocks are not blued. They use a proprietary finish called "Tenifer". It is a Carbo Nitride treatment and there is a treatment they do over it. Some say that is parkerizing but I have not been able to confirm.
There is another process called Melonite which is similar, Springfield uses it on the XD series.
I am not aware of any local sources for it.
If you want to get it Parkerized give me a yell.....

Its a Glock! There is nothing wrong with a little wear and tear on a carry gun

Yeah, I know. I just wanted to touch it up, that's all. My gear all gets put thru its paces, and I like to take care of my things and not let it get too ratty looking. The slide on this G21 is surprisingly worn right to the grey underneath from the friction of leather. If its so tough, why would leather be able to wear it down? And why cant it be touched up ?

glocks have "black oxide something something" (actual name-promise)
over the tenifer. it wears off. the tenifer does not. too had a friend re-touch mine, but it involved tearing the channel liner out, dissassemby, removing sights, then coating with flat-black Gunkote and baking for some hours, installing new liner, sights, and reassembly.

the great part is that the tenifer is really tough so you could remove the sights, tape the innards up, and shoot some krylon color of your choice on there. if it looks poopy simply remove and repeat. worst that could happen is it rubs off again.

(not joking here- seriously considered spraying my gun pink for a match- but spray paint is slightly more difficult to get off of polymer than it is to remove from tenifer steel. pink slide only=no go for me)

Have someone bead it, then park it, pretty much the exact same thing.

Dont worry about the "Tennifer", if you are doing something that some how removes that treatment... I'm guessing you're gun is pretty much trashed, throw it away, buy a new one, don't do whatever it is that you did before, with the new one you just bought...

The tennifer will still be there after the bead blasting also, no need to worry about it. It's actually a treatment called nitro-carburizing. Lots of companies do it also, my Volvo has it done to the internals... Hk's do the same thing but in a gas chamber, and not in a hot salt bath (cyanate salt) like the "tennifer" or the "melonite" process (smith & wesson).. Anyway, there's more to it, but that is the simple, simple version.

Bead it, park it, call it good till next time.
