Hello there
Well this is what a lot of you have been waiting for. The new range that we have been talking about for the last few years is called Lead Valley Range and it is located just east of Byers Co. on highway US 36. We have set the opening for February 20th or soon after. If you have not seen what we have planed you can do so by going to our web site www.leadvalleyrange.com to see the plans. When the range is completed there will be 12 privet berms, a 50 yard range, 100 yard range, 500 yard range, 7 Trap fields, 2 Five Stands and a 24 station Sporting Clays range. This is a three year project. We will open with only the 50 yard and 1 of the privet berms. This is why we will be offering the reduced rate on the memberships that are listed on the schedule.
Below you will find the dues schedule that we have been talking about. Also below you will find the club rules. When you look at the dues schedule you will notice that the price changes at regular intervals. The way that this offering is going to work is that on January 16th at 7:00pm memberships will go on sale. All registration will be done by E-mail so it will be first come first serve. We will only take E-mails that arrive on or after 7:00pm Tuesday January 16th. The date and time stamp on your E-mail will be your place on the schedule. Any E-mails received before 7:00pm start time will not be accepted. I will confirm receipt of all E-mails and let you know where you stand on the schedule and what your dues will be. At that time you will have two weeks to send your check to us or loose you place.
Also all dues will become due on anniversary date of your membership. For those of you who will take advantage of this early offering, your renewal membership will come due on the day before the range opens in 2008.
Just to inform you that we will be at the Sportsmen’s Show down at the convention center on the last weekend of this month selling memberships. So if you wait to long to join your place may change at that time.
Send your E-mail to membership@leadvalleyrange.com to register for the range on the 16th. You should mail your check to Lead Valley Range at 14120 E. Temple Dr. Y-12, Aurora Co. 80015 Attn: Cheryl. If you have

I just got an email from my stopping by thier booth at one of the gunshows. They are now accepting memberships with significant discounts for the first five years according to a schedule they will send you. I'm in the fourth or fifth group of 25 to sign up and my initiation will be $35 plus $80 for the first year's dues. The yearly dues will go up yearly until they stabilize at around $150 according to the schedule they sent me. I figured it was worth it to get in on the ground floor since I've been on waiting lists for at least two other clubs for a few years now.
Of course, no soon had I sent off my check then I got a letter from Aurora Gun Club with the news that I finally bubbled to the top of the list. So from being a member of no club, I'm now a member of two clubs. I figure I'll see which one will suit my needs and desires better after the end of the first year and let the other one go.

Is that Lead Valley Range any good. I found some bad reviews about it. How far away from Denver they are located?

So there is an orientation on 1/16. Is this place worth it ?
Sounds like a direct copy of the Ben Lomond range, to compete with it and draw members away. I love the BLGC range, and it's far more convenient to me in Parker than the Byers range would be. But the Byers range would be easier for Denver folks to just drive straight out I-70 to get to.
I have to go out that way on business once in awhile, I wonder if they'll offer day or hourly rates? Probably not, I don't imagine it'll be a manned range.

I would get a membership at both and hold on to both. AGC, IMO, has a very limited future. The Traps range might survive, but metallic cartridge shooting out there will eventually go the way of the dodo. It's being taken over by city expansion, and eventually they will lose the battle to keep it open.
Rondog, this is similar to BLGC, but this range lay out is better IMO. That being said, I also agree with Kelly. I've heard a lot about this range over the last 5 years and still have yet to see significant action towards getting the range built.
BLGC is closer to me, so I probably won't ever pursue a membership at this range. If I was in the Denver Metro area, I would. Even if you get a low rate membership, and the range dies you are not out very much money. If you get a membership now and Aurora dies it's eventual death, you may have very well saved yourself a 10+ year wait for a membership to the nearest range. There will be stampede to this range at the first signs of AGC's eventual downfall. The next nearest range of any substance is in Dumont, and they have a waiting list. Your choice is to roll the dice or take a small financial investment risk.
I am all for this range making it, and I hope they stick with the forecasted range lay out. It looks like a kick ass layout, expecially for us USPSA shooters. The one thing I would recommend to them is to cut one or two of the small berms out of the picture and add the space to the rest of the berms, making them wider.
Lastly, may none of the current AGC board members NEVER get any control in this new range. They are ignorant to any form of advanced firearms shooting, and would rather cower in a corner and cater to trap shooters than support the only shooting bringing in money (and influential shooters) to their current club.
...cater to trap shooters than support...
Hey, what's wrong with trap shooting? I enjoy it! lol

Not a damn thing. I used to shoot trap and skeet competitively when I was a teen ager. The problem is catering to only one shooting venue when the others are the ones bringing in the $ to the club. I've seen the harrassment first hand. It was derived directly from ignorance of other shooting sports and what is and isn't safe.

Nothing is wrong with trap shooting. I have shot my share of trap, skeet and SC. In fact until the range on base closed I shot 300-500 rounds a week on the different ranges.
However when you look down your Perazzi/Krieghoff nose at all the other shooting sports/games like they do at AGC, we all suffer.
Trap shooters wonder why the average age of a trap shooter is 50+. I dont.

Sound like pussies to me. I couldn't find the one I was looking for where the guy has the sub gun.

As a member since July 2008 I think it is very much worth it. The membership dues are low and the owners are great people and easy to deal with. Several private berms are complete, the 50 and 100 yd ranges are complete, 5 station trap is open and 500 yd range is being worked on. Have had 2 Pumpkin shoots(now annual event) and a Top Gun(3 gun) competition. As membership grows plans for more events are planned. One other benefit is that my wife likes it(and therefore participates more) and can bring guests as well.
Everyone should check it out.

+1 especially the wife and guest comment [Alrigh]
Glenn is alway avalible to chat or give advice, I find it a relaxed atmosphere and a very enjoyable place to shoot.
Disadvantages:
45 miniutes from Aurora
I can be miserable when the wind is blowing
So is Lead Valley still open for business? I came across them by reviewing the range map on this forum and because their website apparently is not maintained I emailed them a few days back and have not received a response thusfar. I'm wondering if the membership fees are up to date and if you can try out the range as a guest before signing on to a full membership...

The last gun show I was at (2 or 3 Denver tanner shows ago) and saw them hawking memberships,if I recall correctly, they want $195 annual fees plus $100 orientation fee ( one time ). and you have to attend an orientation before being allowed on the range.

Yeah finally got an email response just yesterday. They said the membership fees on the website are up to date. Didn't directly answer if I could shoot as a guest first, but just said I could check the place out on the weekend or week days with a call ahead first.
***Edit***
The response actually said their shotgun range is open to the public on the weekends.
don't waste your time, no qualifications that I can see from the owners, low rent and low speed, owners are pompous and overbearing; no practical work allowed other than some 3rd party classes, emphasis on NRA bullseye shooting or being attacked by a pumpkin or playing card, not even in the same class as Ben Lomand range
I've been a member for almost a year and hardly get out there now. I tried to get some cert classes for NRA instructor and just got a runaround from the blowhard kid - Aaron. The father (Glenn) is a good guy, not sure where he is going with things though. It seems like he is putting more into the shotgun courses/area than the ranges.
Do not talk to Aaron, it is a waste of your breath. He will tell you how cool he is, all the jobs he has done and how you need to be/think like him and defend yourself and home like him. You are not entitled to your own opinion unless it's his. He went off on me for shooting a 6.8SPC, told me his story on where the cartridge idea came from (he had no clue) and basically how worthless it was. What set me off first was while I was sitting in the orientation and he walked in being an arshat to his Dad in front of a room full of people. No respect whatsoever. It left a bad taste in my mouth from then on and was confirmed when I spoke to him one on one.
That said, If you live close or need a range to shoot at, go for it. It's worth going out there. They will let you do most any training you want and leave you alone. Move and shoot, off position (laying on your back) ect, they don't care. Just don't walk on the berms for any reason, or you will get a butt chewing. I took the hint in orientation and believe it would be ugly.
If you are looking for more than that, go to CRCI back up the street. It's a first class setup, I was a member there for 3 years...
