This place is horrible, they play on travellers and old people. There is no selection in Trinidad, so these jackwagons take full advantage.I bought a set of tires from them 2 months ago and these POS, told me I didn't buy the warrenty?WTF.I live off 7 miles of dirt & gravel road.I always get it.When they could patch the tire I had the Warr? I even saw them con some single Mom who wanted to buy 2 tires. They said they could only sell 4?WTF.
This is not a rant, just a warning. If you do have to stop there, please only use Big O in Trinidad to take a shit. That is all
It's to bad they think they need to rip people off. Really bad in such a small town like that too.

That was 2 days ago.The normal manager is in the hospital. And after I talked to you,I took my car in for an alinement & with the other stuff I needed done it would be $547. Yeah stay away.I will never go there again.Thinking about small claims court.
being that it is Trinidad...are you sure the single mom was actually a female and not a male? [insert abused smiley]

B.scout, why not try the local Walmart - you know that it's about 100 yards from your Big-0 shop.
Also, tire shops on Commercial and one on Main. Better shop around before you spend some of your huge supply of really big bucks. ;-))
My big complaint about Walmart is that they will NOT service (oil, filter & lube) either my 2008 Toyota Tundra or my 2010 Chev Malibu - afraid of potential liability issues when screwing around with the oil filters on those models??

The only problem with Walmart is they will only put the same size tires that originally came on the vehicle, according to the sticker on the door. I've run 285s on my truck since '05, and the last time I went in, they wouldn't put them back on, even though they had before.
For alignments, I go to Makloski's on Elm street. He has been very honest with me, and there have been a couple of times he told me I didn't need an alignment and didn't charge me for checking it. He sells tires as well, but some he can not warranty.
Discount tire will rip u off too! They prey on the elderly and uninformed too. When they give u a price for a set of tires just say that price is too high and start to walk out. They will give u a lower one then. They have done this to me a couple times. Discount tire and Best Buy are the worst company's out there.

The one up in Fort Collins on College is great. Customer service there is outstanding, in my opinion they set the standard on how to treat a customer.
Every place I've ever been has tried to sell 4 of something, every single time. One time a Brakes Plus told me that they put all four brakes on the car when I only wanted two. The guy actually said, "The brakes are already installed on the car, you mean you want us to take them off!?" I told him I wasn't paying for them, so it was up to him.

This happened to me at two different stores in the Springs (price gouging). I'm sure they just use more vasoline in Fo Co.

Go to JM Tire on Commercial street in Trinidad. Talk to Joe, he's a good guy and will give you a good deal. If he isn't around his wife Angie can help you, she's usually in the office keeping the dogs under control.
Joe does good work and takes a lot of pride in his shop. Plus, if you ever have an issue you can talk directly to the owner and not some underpaid store manager.

Really? The one on Academy will price match anyone. I have zero problems with them. That is too bad.

Having been a previous part owner of a couple of Big O Tire stores there is something you need to know. Most are independently owned (franchised). The individual owners are supposed to follow corporate policies on pricing and purchasing but many follow their own lead. Sometimes straying works fine, and other times it drives them out of business. Additionally you have sales people and managers that are probably incentive based pay. Meaning they get paid more for the more they sell or the more profit they make.
Unfortunately this is common in the auto service industry as a whole and it breeds a type of behavior that is commonly seen in the used car industry.
The best thing you can do is inform the Owner of the establishment where you were trying to give business to and explain why you are upset. Many owners will care and try and change things. Some won't. The ones that won't are the ones you want to avoid.
Unfortunately all mechanics are also not equal and some of the best mechanics work at a place that has a bad sales person or manager. Because a great mechanic is very hard to find, sometimes you just have to deal with the sales person or manager.
FWIW... Some vehicles REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF ALL 4 TIRES at the same time or damage will occur in either the transfer case in AWD vehicles and in the newer 2009 and newer vehicles to the traction control/brake/transmission.
Some companies instead of taking a chance and trashing one of these vehicles will make it company policy to insist that all vehicles replace all 4 at the same time as a CYA. This is very similar to large company policies like Wal-Mart and them never switching sizes.
People are so sue happy these days as well as the electronics involved in today's newer vehicles... companies just don't want the liability.
Regarding pricing/gouging:
Pricing for tires is set regionally and there are cards with fixed prices that should be displayed next to the tires. Locations that don't post these prices are probably ones to avoid. Since it has been over 10 years since I was with Big O things might have changed a bit. In the last 2 years tire prices have risen through the roof everywhere. Tires took a 30% cost increase twice last year!!
I will now give you all some words of wisdom from someone who worked in the tire/auto industry for over 20 years:
Prices are not fixed... they can be negotiable. Don't be cocky or a jerk or you will get charged more.
A box or donuts in the morning or a pizza around lunch time will buy you a staff that will help you out. (cheap insurance)
Lastly ask nicely, "Can you help me out with the price... That is a bit much?" (It will work almost every time!)

The mechanics are they ones that told me about other, better places. Since I live here and bring my 3 cars in alot. They told me that they just like screwing people because its right off I25 & there aren't alot of options.& 2 of the guys said they were looking for new jobs because of it.I even gave a puppy to one of the mechanics last month.I'm thinking about sitting out front with a sign:) Or renting a billboard. Its not about the money(kinda) but i'm tired of people doing shit like this.

Yes, I strongly agree about JM Tire in Trinidad being good. Joe's wife is the only one I have ever dealt with. These are truly nice "down to earth" folks and I have had dealings with them quite often with zero problems in prices AND service.

None of the big tire stores here will let me ransack their wheel weights, even if I buy tires from them. That's really the important issue.

And you know this from experience? The Fort Collins store has always treated me great. And they WILL price match.

You have never shopped here... There isn't a store here that doesn't have insane prices.

I'm sure that is correct and it'd be fine if the buyer lives within reason of the Post and is authorized to make purchases there. But that is still a long way from Trinidad with the gas prices as they are. ;-))

True.. But i'm going to go insane if I really have to spend 2 whole weeks there in July..
Maybe he prefers male taint to female taint?

If you've seen the women in the 'taint.. you would know there isn't much difference :)
Blaster, Broken - I really have nothing against the Taint.. except the people there. Which is why I guess you guys live in the hills :)

OK. Now I can now see the point. For a few of the locals down here, taint stick or hole, kinda in between. Guess that's what it really means.
And yes, we both live in the hills where we see NO taint. Guess we'll just have to wait until you come down here in July to make damn sure that you don't fit into that taint category.[ROFL3][ROFL3]

The 'taint' comments started when Spyder first moved there.. the posts are now gone.. but it was comical.
I don't fit into the 'taint' category.. I have a horrible feeling, that since the mediation was a failure.. I'll be seeing you guys in july.. don't worry.. beer is free at Doc's bar..

Don't know where "Doc's bar" is located but the FREE beer sure sounds good. I just hope that particular bar, if it really exists, is not in the City of Trinidad. Better be well armed if patronizing ANY of the local watering holes here because hazardous duty pay is almost a necessity to frequent ANY of them. Just ask B. Scout - he might know.
