FYI It took me approximately 55 days to get my CCW through Adams Co. Had a few issues like having to go back twice for fingerprints because mine seem to be overly smooth. Received my card in the mail yesterday, my name was spelled incorrectly so I called at about 4:30pm and went to voicemail. The gal running that dept returned my call this morning at 8:30am saying a new card would be sent out right away.

I've heard Adams Co. isn't friendly toward fun toys like suppressors and SBR's but as far as my CCW experience it has been completely positive.

The lady that does the CCW stuff out here is really nice. She likes her job too, which helps a lot.

74 days and Yea I agree the lady that does the prints and pics is very cool. I'm use to not smiling in pics because my work (Federal Contractor) want only "Neutral Appearing" pictures, so when I didn't smile she says "You know this isn't a license to kill", just struck me funny so yea I'm grinning ear to ear in my pic.

I agree. Seems you're more likely to get the call back to pick it up during the last week of the 90 days for some reason...

[Dunno]

The reason is Doug darr is a bastard that forgets that we pay his wages. We are legal Colorado residents that wanna do the right thing by jumping through the hoops and get our ccw. Slowing the process down just makes him and his staff look like bigger a holes.

I just moved to CO last month, and I got all of my paperwork in order, had a photocopy of my birth-certificate (more on this later!) and my training certificates. I read both the sheriff's CHL website and their PDF information packet.

I went yesterday (tuesday) at 1pm and stupidly realized I had read Thursday's hours of operations instead of Tuesday's. I guess it really strains that ghost-town of a headquarters to have more than 8hours a week total to accept an application that takes "90 days" to approve. Knowing outward displays of frustration would get me nowhere, I kindly asked the receptionist to help me make sure I had brought all of the correct paperwork, anyways. Here's the results:

A) The photocopy of my birth certificate was a No-Go, it MUST be the original that they then photocopy.
i) Luckily, they DO take a valid US Passport in lieu of a BC, which I had with me just in case.

B) The photocopies of my Training Certificate were a NO-GO, they must have the originals with an original signature that they then photocopy. I suppose you could have a photocopy of your certificate that was signed again by the instructor, but if you had lost your certificate, I'd think the instructor would just cut you an identical new one.
i) I actually have 3 certificates. Two of them are NRA first-steps, once in 2007 and the other earlier this year. My first is only an emailed PDF from the instructor that obviously just has a digital signature. I doubt the SD will accept this. The second NRA first-steps is the original color certificate, however the signature was a "digital" signature (ie it was printed, not done with a pen). I imagine the SD also giving me grief about this. My 3rd certificate was for a Defensive Pistol I Class I took, and the signature is with a pen luckily. I'll be bringing all 3 certificates with me.

Also, don't forget to only sign the application when you submit it, and bring $152.50 in the form of a check or cash.

Now about that $152.50: I read that a CHL was to not cost more than $100. I love how the sheriff's department works in that extra $52.50 to process your fingerprints. If a private enterprise was doing business this way, they'd be plywood-windows & dust by now. The card it's done on is $0.02. The time it takes to take your prints is 2 minutes, tops. The time it takes to scan it in can be no longer than 5 minutes. That makes it a $450/hr job?

I'll edit my thread tomorrow when hopefully everything goes well!

That's the website where I read the times wrong (my fault). The process was actually pretty simple, and the ladies working there were very nice and patient. The lady who did the fingerprinting and photo was extremely nice and helpful.

I asked in a nice way why it took so long (she quoted me 90 days) and she says it's the backlog of applicants, and that the number of them since a few years back has simply skyrocketed. She says that the SD will give a call when the permit is approved and mailed out and it should be here within 5 days after that.

Update 08/24/12: license received! They called yesterday & left a message to notify that it had been mailed. So total time = 50 days.

Started June 21st (found my receipt to confirm), received today August 24th. Total time = 64 days.

You obviously don't known Sheriff Darr, or anything regarding his positive attitude towards CCW. They have dedicated staff and certain days to task permits, and time depends upon the number of applicants. Sounds like you might have expected somewhat different treatment than others get, or, maybe, you are a trumpeter for Someone else. Maybe attitude.....?

Why dont you google Doug darr Adams county ccw and see what you find. Mine took LONGER than 90 days. So yeah I was hoping to get same treatment as everone else. Why don't you call his office and ask them Mr. Darr's opinion on supressors and sbr sign offs.

Different topic,

I have talked to him. Obstructing....? Not, but you did not get preferential treatment, and neither did I. I am OK with that, you can feel however you wish.
I do know he is a proponent of CCW"........you can interpret your wait however you wish.
Wait till he retires and see what you get

Mine took 89 days. Guess I was lucky :)

Most people I have spoken to in Adams county had it go right up to the wire and it was 87-90 days.

Can't say for all counties, but all I did was give Jeffco a copy of my 214 Member-4 and all was well. [Beer]

A couple of years ago I went to Adams with what I thought were the state requirements and was told that I needed my DD214 and a state issued birth certificate.
When I told them that I had checked the state requirements I was told that I should have checked the Adams Sheriff web site.
Because I never accepted the whole pay to carry idea I just walked out. [Rant1]
