…no, I am not talking about the Obama Administration!

I fired up my old K5 last night…wanted to do some wheeling with the kids this summer.

“fired” was right; it ran for about 30 seconds and burst into flames. I had it under control in about two minutes or so, but…enough damage to cause me a lot of work.

I am guessing a damn squirrel, mouse, or something put a hole in the fuel line.

Oh, the joy of melted hoses and wires!

Yikes! Glad you're still around to tell the tale! Good luck with the restoration! I hate wiring issues...

Damn man glad you were not hurt!
On the plus side now you have more garage time!

Bummer. My experience isnt as bad but I pulled out my dirt bike this spring. Started it but the throttle wouldnt budge. After diagnosing, I pull the carb and a freaking mouse nest was in the freaking carb. A little faggot mouse got into the airbox, chewed through the air filter, and left an hours worth of cleanup in the carb. I hate rodents.

This wasn't much of a danger to me, but the Blazer is in the trees about 50ft from my garage. I was REALLY happy/lucky I didn't catch the forest on fire! I live right by the Lower North Fork Fire; my neighbors would have killed me!

Ouch!

I should have inspected it far more than I did!

Sure it was chewed up by a critter, and not just an old, rotten hose?

I saw a two year old land rover burn up because of rodents. Basicly you cant let somthing sit if you live rural. I hate putting out poison. most people keep a dozen or so barn cats but im soft hearted id probably let them in the house in the winter. My neighbors barncat population will get up to like 50 then a bobcat or coyote will notice and the population will rapidly decline.

My new dog keeps the foxes away, rodent population has gone up over last few years. Mice, rats, and chipmunks love my shed; mouse tracks on my vehicle engines (this scares me). Traps are a pain in my ass. An old timer friend recommended moth ball bombs; a bunch of mothballs in an sock soaked in pinesol. I'll be trying this soon.
Sorry to hear about your bike, Damn Obama rodents.

I can't be sure. I may find something when I tear it down and go through wiring. However, I am guessing that the evidence is gone. The fuel line hose to the carb was gone past the fuel filter.

I have a hard fuel line to the fuel pump and a soft line to the carb. The fuel line and carb are only six years old. I didn't see any evidence of weathering when I looked at everything before hooking up the battery.

I think I will start putting poison traps in the engine compartments. I have four vehicles that are rarely driven and another Trans Am and Suburban that are usually parked in the winter.

It's apparently a massive problem out at DIA w/ the cheap parking lots..

Its a real pain. I drive ten year old cars which is fine as long as you got at least one backup and i prefer two or six junker back ups. I maintain my vehicles they still run at 25 years but they are not much fun to drive. They make great backup vehicles though if you can keep the freakin rodents out of them... Ive slimmed down to one junker back up specifically because of rodents. Personally I really like nice rodent eating machines aka coyotes. Ive watched them hunt mice before in the snow its incredible how many they can catch and eat maybe one every two three minutes. Their tail starts wagging bigger than shit when they locate one then 10 or so seconds later coyote gulping down mouse!
