I have a mixer console (sound craft fx16). The slider controls have no bearing on volume.... Help. I've read the owners manul, played with all the buttons, etc. can't figure out what's wrong...

Let me know what info you need. If you'd like to come look, I can pay your gas and lunch. It's an old system I'm trying to get back into shape to save some budget money, finished cleaning up the wiring today and it seems correct .. But the sliders aren't working...

Basic setup - input to mixer, to equalizer, to amp, to speakers (l/r stereo, no sub).... Cheap school, lol

Got a pic or two?

First questions:

1. Is it plugged in?
2. Is it turned on?

Easy stuff aside,

3. Are the output lights showing signal? (Right side of console next to main sliders)
4. Are all of the mute buttons unmuted?
5. Have you set gain on all of the input channels?

Here's a link to the user guide. Further troubleshooting steps are found on page 22.

Does the Mix Master fader do anything?
What are the inputs plugged into? (XLR, RCA, balanced 1/4")
Any of the channels assigned to any groups or Subs?
Anything connected on/to the Mix Insert?

make sure you don't have the PFL (pre fader level) engaged to the mix

I'll snap some tomorrow for y'all, got overloaded on work today trying to get all that up and running.

Yes, plugged in. Yes, turned on. Yes, showing signal. Yes, mute buttons are NOT on. Yes, gain is set. I've read the user guide, no help. I do get sound, but the sliders have no impact on said sound. I have to use the master fader. As a side note, NO channels (inputs) will work without the "solo" button engaged... it should not work that way.

No master Fader slider... it's a turn knob, that does work.
Inputs are XLR for mic and 1/4" for ipod/computer/etc input.
Groups or sub info unknown, taped label are unreadable.
Mix insert? Need more description please.

Rgr, PFL is not engaged... sliders still not working.

(Another teacher mentioned that they DID work at the beginning of the year assembly... )

Thanks guys.

Is it the individual line sliders not working, the master, or both!?!?

*and what outputs are you using?

Individual line sliders are NOT working. There is NO master "slider" on this unit, it's a turn knob.

Outputs include 1/4 inch, and XLR.

Unit is a Soundcraft FX16 (not II model)... it's old, but it's all they got.

I'd love a new Sonus mixer and be able to download the wireless mixer app for my Ipad... that would rock... but it's also like $15K, HAHA. Anyways, chasing rabbits.

Best check is what output is being used. You do have master outs on the L and R mix (furthest right red faders). You should have the mix assign buttons down on each channel you are using to send them to the main mix. If you only get sound using the solo buttons, you are probably using the monitor outs. Switch them over to the mix outs.

Soundcraft still has a page for this mixer at http://www.soundcraft.com/products/product.aspx?pid=22

I would come down and help bear but I['m in the middle of a remodel at one of my clubs.. has me up all night and up all day....

but if you can tell me how your hooked up a bit more I think I can help you.

I looked over the manual

what outs are you using ?

if aux 1 or 2 make sure the AFL( after fader level) switch is engaged
if the main mix outs make sure they are not solo'ed
if using the monitor outs it is not meant to use the fader on the monitor levels.

a few ideas for ya... I'll PM you my number.... if you can text me pics of the set up I might be able to help over text ... but I've been at the club all night trying to blow my ears out so it will be a few hours before I can help LOL

If you still haven't figured your mixer out, PM your number to me and I'll walk you thru it. Audio production is what I do for a living.

Complete thread de-railment. My new in-ears showed up today, and figured some of you would appreciate them.

If it is on slide that is not working and you have sound it is either wired wrong, or needs a good dose of contact cleaner CRC makes a good one. unhook everything and spray it while sliding it back and forth. Be sure to let it dry before reconecting. Dirt and grime build up preventing current flow just a thought

Nice. I've been using some Shure SE420s and SE530s for the last few years. I do like in-ears with good low end.
