How many took it? How many stand by it? how many believe that it never expires?

Oath of Enlistment
I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

Officers Oath

I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. I would say that the "Oath of Enlistment" should follow the Pledge of Allegiance, for civilian folk.

Thanks for posting. Didn't know about those.

The problem is that if something were to happen to the civil structure of the US the people with legal obligations to this oath, and those that follow it after the fact will be enemies.

Follow your heart, not some mass recited verse that often contradicts it's self.

I'm pissed that at age 17, I was told by my Marine recruiter that I would not pass the physical part!! I passed all other tests with A+ grades. But too many broken bones the Marines would NOT take me!!

He said I could go into the Army no problem, Navy for sure, but the friends were going into the Core!! I said pack sand!

Now I'm my own!! Willing to take on any enemy that tries to F-with the USA!! No matter what!! S*it hits. Lead flyin!!

Not all who take that oath do it in the way you suggest. I was discharged in 98, took a similar oath as an LEO, now Im a Graphic designer and Range safety officer. To suggest that none of these young men took the oath meaning that first and foremost they are to protect and defend the constitution is patently false. Sure some will follow orders blindly but many of our men in uniform would and technically could refuse to follow any order which violates the constitution they swore to uphold and defend, I myself take it quite seriously and especially the foreign and DOMESTIC part. I still believe our constitution when not being twisted is the single greatest document a group of men ever envisioned. Now if we would've only left it alone.

Never take an oath unless you intend to abide by that oath. My oath is a sacred honor and my life is bound by that oath as long as I live.

Psalm 15
A psalm of David.

1 Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent?
Who may live on your holy mountain?

2 The one whose walk is blameless,
who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from their heart;
3 whose tongue utters no slander,
who does no wrong to a neighbor,
and casts no slur on others;
4 who despises a vile person
but honors those who fear the Lord;
who keeps an oath even when it hurts,
and does not change their mind;
5 who lends money to the poor without interest;
who does not accept a bribe against the innocent.

Whoever does these things
will never be shaken.

I think that you need to read your constitution again (or for the first time). Amending the constitution in the way laid out in Article V is in keeping with the way our founding fathers intended. Also, the constitution doesn't endorse slavery, nor does it say that women can't vote. Furthermore, there is a reason that in the original text senators were elected by the state governments. Otherwise, what's the purpose of having a bicameral legislature if they both represent the people? The House is supposed to represent the people, the Senate is supposed to represent the states. The 17th Amendment needs to be repealed, IMO.

True, and it's been used 17 more times in accordance with that process, for good and bad.

Also, the constitution doesn't endorse slavery, nor does it say that women can't vote.

True, it doesn't endorse it, but neither does it disallow it. It's only addressed in the initial Constitution in Article 1, Section II. Slavery was outlawed by a Constitutional Amendment in 1865. Prior to that, it was fully legal under the Constitution.

Amendment 19 was passed in 1920, ensuring women would be allowed to vote. We can argue de jure vs de facto, but it's a fact that women were not allowed to vote during the time of our founding fathers, that they were fully aware of that, and had the tools to make sure that women were granted that right. It didn't happen for over 120 years.

Furthermore, there is a reason that in the original text senators were elected by the state governments. Otherwise, what's the purpose of having a bicameral legislature if they both represent the people? The House is supposed to represent the people, the Senate is supposed to represent the states. 1. yut
1. a motivational word used in the U.S. Military, similar to the word oorah - often used when one is either too lazy or not motivated enough to say oorah or other popular word of motivation.

2. used when in a large group of military members. When they shout a motivational term on cue, some may shout "YUT!" instead, and often in a sharp, awkward voice, just to stand out.
When the Master Sergeant tells a lower-ranking Marine to complete a task, one who is new would likely shout "oorah!" to sound motivated. But a Marine who has been in longer may likely shout "Yut!" instead to show his motivation.

As for Kill

I love it!

I took the oath on October 1st, 2006 and since then have followed it and upheld it to the best of my abilities even after my discharge in 2010. My time may have been short in falling under the rule of the UCMJ but that oath will never be broken by this man. The only problem, and in chronological order "Support and defend the constitution" comes before following the orders of the president, so I wonder if there is a way to uphold that oath if the enemy of the constitution one day becomes the very president who is giving the orders? Not saying that's the case now [for our friends who read this site] [Coffee] But what if?

So help me God

I look at it this way:

My willingness to obey the orders of the President (especially this particular President) ended with my retirement. My obligation under the oath will end when my potential call-up as part of the Inactive Ready Reserve (i.e., relatively recent retiree) ends but my personal commitment to the Constitution will continue to death.

Agreed!

My oath expires the day I die. It means as much to me today as it did every time I’ve taken it. Once at MEPS the second time the day I became a Marine. I know not everyone likes Oath Keepers. But I think the Oath Keepers “Ten Orders We will Not Obey” covers a lot that I believe in.

Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of my Ranger Regiment.
Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier, who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move further, faster, and fight harder than any other soldier.
Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong, and morally straight, and I will shoulder more than my share of the task, whatever it my be, one hundred percent and then some.
Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress, and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow.
Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. I will never leave a fallen comrade and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.
Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission, though I be the lone survivor.
Rangers Lead the Way!
