Ok so I picked up my Combo Hunting/Fishing license Friday night. I went out East of Parker and called a few Coyotes. They didn't come in very close but saw a few. Almost all of the land is private and posted No TP or Hunting. I stopped by a few houses and got mixed responses. Does anyone know of a few spots to hunt or land owners who would allow Coyote hunting on private property? Also would translate to hunting praire dogs in the spring. :P
I should also ask if anyone else hunts coyotes and wants to get together. I could use a few pointers on calls and setup.
Thanks,
Tim {HunterCo} might be able to give You more up to date info, But if Your willing to drive some, take a run up the South Platte corridor. Plenty of small wildlife areas, and, a lot of Farmers and Ranchers that would be receptive to someone getting rid of 'Yotes, especialy the closer it gets to calving season. Went out that way a few years back, to locate the mythical "Centennial" of James Michner book fame, must have seen 25-30 of 'em that day.

There are quite a few Colorado Memebers all over the state.
Hunting coyotes. Thats more fun than drowning kittens.
I go east of Colorado Springs near Punkin Center. Most ranchers tell you to kill them all.

I have some private land out in Yoder we can hunt them on. I antelope hunt out there and I have permission for several different pieces of property. I would be more than willing to set up a hunt. I am no expert at calling them with manual calls electronic calls are the best.
Another good place is Shawnee just west of Bailey. The coyote in my avatar I took from there. I BP deer hunt the area and always see coyotes when I am deer hunting. Just behind the old shooting range there is an abandoned hunting lodge two stories. It over looks a meadow and is a perfect place to set up you can shoot from the second floor windows.
I also know of several other places close to Denver.

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to get my Colt Gov model 6551 A2 out and put the scope back on it. I was hunting last night with my Colt 6920 w/ EoTech. The rabbits I got didn't have a chance but hunting coyotes with it may be something of a challenge with no magnification. The EoTech is deadly up to 200 yards. After that my eye sight is not as good as it once was.
I'm saving up for a varmit rifle and have been looking at the Rem 700 SPS stainless in either .223 or .22-250.

Does anyone have recommendations on coyote calls? Which ones do you use and like?

This is the one I have been looking at I will get it as soon as funds permit. I have used the ones with wires and they are a pain in the butt. This one is wireless and you can control it up to 250 yrds. away.

I have a FoxPro and really like it. It was too expensive for a MP3 player though...
Hindsight I should have gone with a Western Rivers caller.
I used to hunt a bunch 2 miles south of Yoder until we moved our drop zone.

I believe this is still illegal. My buddy got popped for something similar.
There is a law that says you can not discharge a firearm within 300 feet of a dwelling or structure, occupied or not. We were near an old sheep shed, miles from any house or home and he got a ticket.
I'll try and look up the exact law....
EDIT...kinda hard to find...I believe it was a National Forest Service reg.
Now it comes up every time he wants to buy a new gun...making him wait 24 hours for a response.....what a hassle.

You are correct in the fact that it is illegal to "Target shoot" within 150 yrds. of any campground, structure, trail or road. It however is not illegal to hunt under those circumstances.
I will call Pike National Forest tomorrow just to make sure. Something else to remember is each agency varies as to what there rules are. Just because something is legal in Pike NF does not mean it would be legal for instance in Arapahoe NF.

I would love to go coyote hunting with someone who has been before. I've been wanting to take my son since I missed a shot at one during deer season. No experience, however would help with driving/gas etc.
Also wondering if it is just pc, noticed the date of last post was Mon Jan 15. This post is ~2230 Tue. night. Is that my personal settings?

What are you kidding? The place my son hunts them is less than 2 miles from the south shoot location. It's just south of the south shoot location as a matter of fact. Karl.

Where he got popped was just west of Highway 67 at the Teller/Douglas County line. There is a big field there full of prairie dogs. It almost across from the turn off that goes east to Rainbow Falls. There is no place to drive in..it's walk in only.
We've even seen antelope in that field.
We hunted it for about 10 years before he got busted...haven't been back in almost 10 years.....I stick to eastern Colorado now.

[roll] That's where I was just talking about. The south shoot area is .5 miles north of the county line. Where my son shoots is about .5 miles south of the county line. Karl.

Is the South shoot area east or west of 67?
I bet it is on the west side...in about 1/4-1/2 mile in the big meadow backed by the hills.
I've had been shooting there for about 20 years...again I haven't been in a few years though.
It was closed right after the burn? They used it for a staging and storage area. There is a herd of elk that live in that immediate vacinity...usually within 1 mile of that location. If shooting starts...they usually head west over the hill but return to the meadow to feed.
Have you seen anybody climb that hill with a 4x4?
A saw a guy almost roll his truck trying to get up it.

Yup that's the spot exactly. Used to get real heavy use by shooters but always seemed to stay clean. Still does too. And I have seen a motorcycle and ATV up that hill, and I reported same to the local forest ranger. [roll] Oh, did I mention that is a "No Motorized Vehicle" area? But that's where we shoot, not where my son hunts. He hunts on private propert about a mile south of there. He even gets paid for taking out the local vermin whilst not disturbing the Mrs. of the property owner. He LOVES silencers now.  Karl.

Hence why I asked I have never come across any in the hills so I was curious. From Kenosha pass all the way to the New Mexico boarder is pretty much prairie and a finger of that go's up towards WP. I see tons of antelope in Jefferson. I have never seen any dogs but it is all private property I don't know of any of the flats that are NF.
