I've been on a revolver kick lately. Don't quite know why.

I think a 6-shot, K-frame, 4" barrel would be ideal. Of course Smith & Wesson doesn't offer that right now.

I'm torn between the 4" 10-shot, and the 6" 6-shot.

Any comments on either?

Get an older K-17
heck of a lot less money, same basic gun
I like mine a lot. (not as much as the diamondback, but it was a lot less money)

Any thoughts on 4" bbl -vs- 6" bbl?

6-shot -vs- 10-shot?

Revolvers should have 6
Ordained from above.

Depends on what you want it for.
Target shooting? 6"
Carrying, 4"

The 4" is better balanced (like all revolvers), but the 6" is probably more accurate and looks scarier.

The 4" is better balanced

That's my take on both items as well.

So how do I go about getting a 4" 6-shot?

Try the gun shops
You'll have to get a model 17, not a 617 (i.e. used), they don't make the 17 anymore
But there are always some around.

What about getting a 10-shot 4" and a 6-shot 6".

And then swapping barrels?

Or could I get a 6" 6-shot, and order a 4" barrel for it?

I will look for a Model 17 though. I think that would suit me fine.

FYI, I bought a Model 317 HIVIZ a few years ago, but I just never liked it and wound up trading it in on something else.

What would be really cool is a 6-shot ~24oz 4" J-frame in .22.

Or even a ~30oz 4" K-frame 6-shot .22.

Hello, I have a 6-inch, 617-4, 10-round. It's the most accurate nandgun I've ever owned.

It likes the Federal 550-round bulk packed ammo and I get the second-best groupings with it.

The best groups I ever got were with Fiocci Biathlon ammo, but given it's high price, I usually stay with Federal.

New shooters that I introduced to this sport love this gun and the SA trigger is fantastic! I put at least 10,000 rounds through it in the last six years and it still works and looks just like a brand new gun.
