I read this on the Sampson board, has anyone ever heard of it? :?:

Oh... and if your weapon is brand new, you may want to lock the bolt to the rear and leave it like that until you can get it to the range. That way the number of break-in shots will be reduced.

I was frustrated with my first AR because I had numerious FTE. Then I did a search and finally read the manual and found out that there would be a 200 round break in period. I locked the bolt to the rear while it was being stored and the next time at the range, the weapon worked flawlessly.

thanks

Nope and I have to call [bs] . Every AR I own I simply took to the range and shot it. My AR with the RDIAS was brand new and I pounded the hell out of it F/A about 500 rnds first time out.

What manual was this guy reading? out of two rifles and four uppers, the only one I ever did a "Break in" period on was My varmiteer upper. The rest of them I just shot 200 or so rounds through before I sighted them in. that was about it.

[bsflag] What a load of crap

Most AR failures are magazine related

leave the bolt down like you would expect.
how does putting the bolt back break in the barrel? Allows the little mice to come and do their work on the barrel?
ugh.
The internet is great
most of the time.

You know how you can see or hear something that sounds so out there that it actually makes you think "Was I absent that day"?

Thanks guys

Who wrote that s****?

Just freakin shoot it. I have never done a break in period on any barrel or weapon. I just shot the shit out of 'em. If they dont work somethings wrong.

Somebody should have said "No" to those funny looking little mushrooms.

The only thing you might get from locking the bolt back is a little bit of 'spring set' in the buffer spring.

The worst is that somebody'll read that, at that other site, and think that if it works in the beginning it'll work all the time. There ain't much worse than keeping the bolt locked back. It's hard on the action spring, bolt, bolt catch button and the bolt catch button spring. Not to mention the fact that with a bump, the bolt goes slamming forward.

That's just crazy talk!
