Instead of purchasing food out right from my bank account i like to use my credit card, since if ever a time i will need my emergency food i highly doubt discover card will be sending me bills.

Buy mass quantities and make your minimum payment for the food and you may end up with alot of free food![Pepsi] [Muaha]

But not before spending twice as much as the food normally costs in interest...

No joke.

I think buying a little at a time every month, within your financial means, will work out better and not burden you with crazy debt. Then again if you believe 2012 is really the end and you need to stock up now, by all means rack up the credit card debt. Of course if I were a gambling man, I'd be willing to bet Jan 1 2013 is going to be here right on schedule, followed by a really big CC bill.

Little bit here and there adds up pretty quick.

I underlined the key word for you. You may also have Discover put a lien on your wages too. With that logic, why don't you take out a massive home equity loan on your house? You could buy a metric butt ton of food with that. They may foreclose on your house, but hey, you get to keep all that food!

I can think of only one way this works out in your favor...
... and a lot of ways it doesn't...

Debt sucks, paying off high interest on debt you did not have to acquire - sucks more.

However, eating sucks a lot less - tho finding out that pallet of MRE food sucks so much you can't eat it - well...

I look at it this way - store what you eat - eat what you store - at least for deep pantry. I have no problems buying a case or two of MRE's to be used when required.

Exactly, if you really want to build up an emergency food supply, do what I've been convincing my Fiancee we have to do. We recently bought a house and our pantry is completely empty, she thinks we're just filling it with food, I'm preparing for when the zombies get here from Florida [LOL].

Really though, when you're at the store if you need 1 can of peas, get 3. Then, next time you use a can of peas, buy 2 more, don't just wait for the ones you've got to be used up. That way, you're always rotating the supply and adding one to it. Same goes for all other food and if you have space, a deep chest freezer is a great way to store lots of stuff.

We shop a lot at Costco, and all the canned stuff comes in packs of 4-8 cans. Every time I've been sneaking 1-3 cans out of each new package and putting it in the tiny pantry that we have. I thought my wife knew, but I guess she didn't because she commented to me that she wondered how come we were going so fast through the chicken, and she didn't realize that we already had more than she just bought.
