Got the first two episodes recorded. Thinking I'll watch it this weekend. Seems like a lot of people shoot guns and stuff, so it can't be all bad :)

I am recording them. I got about 3/4 through the first episode last night. It is good entertainment value. I am unsure of the historical accuracy.

I believe it is a little "hollywooded" for effect.
1870's and they had NO law in the east.
More law in the west. Hmmm.
Saw the Discovery channel doc on the forensic investigation a few years ago. They showed some pretty interesting facts but the movie again is a little over the top I think.

It was a real fued: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatfield%E2%80%93McCoy_feud

Yeah I heard the same thing, BS. My dad's mom was born and raised in Wheeling, WV. Her family has been there since before the American Revolution, and she used to tell me stories about the feud that was still happening when she was a girl. In the hills of Kentucky, West Virginia, and Tennessee there was no law after the War of Northern Aggression as my Greatgrandma Margaret would say. There remains little law today way back in the hollers there. I have family there that the last time I was there 20 years ago had no electricity no running water just hand pumped wells. I think it's a little Hollywooded up but so far not bad. I am through the first episode.

If the movie is really accurate, those folks sure drank one hell of a lot of shine. [Coffee][Coffee][Coffee]

Still difficult to believe that they were so easily riled up to fight and kill each other.

Fucking history channel. Whatever happened to the history part of it?

The next historical program is 9am friday morning. The next 36 hours are filled with swamp people and pawn stars.

Not overly historically accurate. Started off that way too since nobody really can say what started the feud but the series basically puts ALL of the potential causes into the plot so nobody can say anything about 'That's not how it started...' because just about every alleged cause was played out in the opener. So far it's entertaining but I wouldn't put any weight in any of it other than as entertainment.

All I got to say is it's easy to feud when every single member of each family is sauced 24/7/365. [Swim]

I haven't seen it yet but figured based on the cast it would be pretty good. Not historically (history channel is not about history) but probably better than most of the crap on the tube.

On a side note - I was surfing through the channels in the hotel and ran across 'The devils ride'. I'm a lifelong biker, not a 1%'r by any means, but have friends and acquaintances in many an MC. I seriously thought it was like RENO911, but supposedly it's a real MC... What's next ? Crack house makeover ?

I read the above and thought WOW. Then I re-read it and noted it was just pawn stars, NOT porn stars. Oh well, back to sleep.[Tooth]

Just another movie without much plot or solid character building with lots of guns and smoke.

The guns are cool though and Tom Berenger was born to play his character.

You never been in a very ethnic neighborhood during a wedding, funeral, party, or during a serious heat wave??

I liked it, but they lost me several times. Little kids in one scene re-appeared as gun-toting adults in the next, so it kinda confused me. Guess this feud really lasted over a bunch of years. And I don't recall seeing any "winter" scenes to speak of, just some "fall" type weather. Even the New Year's Eve raid appeared to happen in mild weather. And more kids seemed to just "appear" in each family as time went on, like they kept crankin' them out, but I don't recall seeing either of the main mothers pregnant.

But hey, it's just a TV show, the important thing was selling advertising time. Funny they're already advertising "pre-orders" for the DVD set.

The feud itself lasted for over 25 years so that's why they were showing kids in one scene and then adults the next. It helped to know some of the history involved with this event and I found myself explaining a lot of things to my wife during all three episodes and I could easily see where one could get a little cornfused if you came into the series knowing nothing about what went down.

I watched the History preview, then all 3 episodes on DVR. They kept a pretty tight line on what the historians claim went down.

I'm surprised there were not more "Cottontops" given all the inbreeding. :D

One that comes to mind for me was the dialogue betwen Anse Hatfield and his wife in the bedroom after his return from the battlefield that was less than family friendly. That said, there WERE frequent and clear warnings that the content was NOT suitable for younger audiences.

Less than family friendly ? Lets see he's gone for X amount of time and finally gets together with his wife. I don't think family friendly chit chat was on the menu.

It's one of the people/characters from the series. He was a couple tacos short of a combination platter. If you didn't watch it why are you trying so desperately to be involved in a conversation about it? http://images.hatsushika.multiply.com/image/1/photos/upload/300x300/SaDhJwoKCJAAAGxCiRo1/1128-flipping-off-and-sticking-tongue-out.gif?et=TaRwGJmoRpORzMdvqjqcng

I thought it was some slang for something having to do with incest. Now that I know that it doesn't, I don't care anymore.

Technically it could have something to do with incest... remember, incest breeds r-tards... Sorry to sound insensitive... mentally challenged folks are a more common result of inbreeding.

I DVR'd it and thought part one was a bit of a yawner, you could tell it was made to be a movie and got turned into a miniseries, lots of language bleeped out. I'm a big history buff AND from Kentucky, so I feel compelled to watch the entire thing :)

If nothing else, it's interesting to watch it just to see the weapons they used, and the transition from Civil War-era cap & ball stuff to cartridge weapons, then Single Action Armys and Winchesters. They pretty much used anything that would go bang.
