View Full Version : What if your local jail released it's inmates?
In Grant Pass Oregon, the local jail released 39 inmates due to budget cuts.

The sheriff's office released 39 inmates, dropping the population at the jail in Grants Pass to 60 – half of them federal prisoners held on contract.
"We had no other alternative based on our funding predicament," said Josephine County Undersheriff Don Fasching. "We are very concerned for public safety."
This is another good quote from the feed.
The lower staffing levels mean that only 10 jail beds will be available for someone arrested for a crime, forcing police to cite and release most people, Fasching said. The more serious offenders already occupied 20 beds.
So, what would you do?

Not like it would make much of a difference in society..............
I'd mind my own business and vaccinate my kids immediately.

[LOL]You crack me up stuving.
they have done that several times down here, and when they get full on weekends a judge comes in and bonds the low risk out, to make room for the higher risk inmates coming in. for a while a year or two back when they were full, they were not taking in dui's they were just taking them to detox till they blew a zero, and then releasing them with a summons.
Institute the death penalty for the more serious crimes... [Flower]

As I sit here in jail... I'll offer my opinion...
Failure to Appear in court for a parking ticket should not equal jail. Failing to appear in court for failing to appear... Sure.
Failure to Appear in court for a "dog at large" ticket should not equal jail. Failing to appear in court for failing to appear in court.. Jail.
Also... I'm getting really sick of the homeless clowns that break some stupid piddly law that lands them in jail... The only reason they broke the damn law is to come to jail for free food and medical care. Happens all the time in the winter too. Leave their asses out there.
Sorry. Mini Rant over... :D
sounds like OWS found a new way to recruit people. park a bus outside jails releasing inmates and pay them to be destructive during protests
As various city councils continue to increase the number of laws on the books, they'll either need to build more cells or start releasing people. I realize that increased legislation is how members of the council justify their existence but some of the laws they dream up are a bit absurd.

Well, if I had my choice I'd let all the druggies go (as long as they weren't there for violent offenses). I never understood the "war on drugs". Let them kill themselves. Cleanse society while unburdening the prison system.

I feel the exact same way... you should check out this book:

Very well written by one of CO's former Sheriffs... very smart guy and he further presses the issue that this is a loosing war that must end ASAP.
I never understood going to jail for traffic violations if you dont pay them ship it to the DMV and when its time to renew your license pay up or no license.

Yeah... It works out well until drugged up zombies start eating your face off... [ROFL1]
Even some of top G30 countries do NOT have bed at a prison cell.

WAIT!!! Isn't this why we spend all the time on this hobby? ZOMBIES?
It's all in priorities, the Sheriff of that County is telling the residents that the Supervisors don't consider public safety a priority. There's money but the libs want to use it for social justice instead of what it was intended for.

Fact is we have far too many laws on the books, many of them mainly for the purpose of revenue generation, the prisons and jails should be used to house real criminals only. As a former LEO I hated wasting time taking folks to jail on traffic warrants (a few times for FTA on J-walking sites!) and sometimes even more silly stuff like FTAs on getting sued for unpaid car loans and the like, then watching the illegals who committed real crimes get a catch n release. Revenue generation should not be a priority but sadly is.

Some LE's think crazy. Look at Pat Sullivan, he thought the best way to fight the WOD was go under cover[s];)
Public stocks. I'm just sayin' 48 hours would cure many people of the need to misbehave.

You are incorrect. That it not at all what Sheriff Masters' message is. I know - I worked for the man. I sent Ronin that book. If you PM me your mailing address, I'll send you one too, free. Read it (it's a fast read). If you don't find any validity in it, fine, but at least you can make an informed statement, and not a baseless assumption.

Pisses me off.
I like Ronin's suggestion above....
This, incidentally, is a no-win situation: rather than really dealing w/ crime, we just lock people away filling up jail space. Then, when they "need" more money, they try to raise taxes by stating, "we'll have to cut all these criminals loose!!!"
F that...
Sorry, slight rant. None of my 3 daughters are old enough to carry/shoot... yet...
