I bought an Eotech 512 and mounted it on a Midwest Quad rail on my ak47. Once I bore sighted it I headed to the range. Took me about 5 rounds and I was putting it on the paper at 100 yards with groups of about 5". I thought this was pretty good for a non magnified holograph sight.
I then tried the "as bought" factory sights and couldn't hit anything until I dropped back down to 50 yards.
Knowing batteries don't last forever, I thought how poorly i'd do without the Eotech. My question is.......does anyone make a reticle for the Eotech that mounts on the sight and is visible all the time?? That way

if your batteries went out you would have the same physical target as the holograph.
Thanks

Never mind. Paralax is not your friend.

An optic is backup for irons and vice versa. You need to be well versed with irons if as it already did fail. There are some ET QD mounts available see which will fit your needs. I would have done some research prior to buying the ET. A few companies make Ak forward rails that co witness with the irons.
Learn how to sight AK irons then install the red dot.

you're not going to co-witness ak sights with a giant eotech. im not saying its a bad choice though, poland uses an eotech or an acog on their beryls. poland has their rail high enough that they can look through a milled slot on their rail under their optic to use irons as a backup.

also another thing to check is make sure your rail is tight and has absolutely no movement. 5" at 100 yards seems like a large group but then again how used to ak's and their "wonderful" trigger are you? after some rounds down range try to see how it will shoot with golden tiger or yugo surplus (generally more accurate than ammo from the other plants)

Thanks for the suggestions.

Also you might want to look into getting a redstar arms adjustable trigger group. The biggest causes for poor ak performance is a poor trigger, crappy ammo and crummy sights, you improved sights with an eotech now put in a good FCG and use good ammo and that should help you be more consistant

use lithium batteries. the heat from the gas tube will kill alkaline.
