Any black powder fans in here

I have been shooting Flintlock since I was 12, I finally got my PA Long Rifle back from my parents a couple of years ago. Recently picked up a 1858 New Army for some pistol fun. Have been considering joining Fort Lupton Muzzleloading Club (http://www.spvhs.org/flmlc.html). Are any of you here members of this association?

I never got into the black powder much.
I built one of those Hawken kits many years ago and never did much with it.I dont even think I have it anymore.
Most ranges here in NY wont let you shoot balck powder guns.

Id be interested in getting back into them once I'm out there.

My first love was muzzleloaders. Built a few back in the day, my cousin is still into them big time. He even went on a blackpowder safari in Africa a few years ago.
I have had an itch to build a fullstock flint Hawken clone.

I currently have a Thompson Center Hawken in .50 Cal. It is capable of being really accurate. Only thing about shooting BLACK POWDER firearms is the requirement to clean them soon after firing them although that's not quite as important out here in the low humidity State of Colorado. Also have a BLACK POWDER mortar that I have listed in an ad down in the firearms for sale section. People have got to remember that BLACK POWDER is not just color but a "type" of powder and it has a lot of power.

Thats definitly the key Bob,cleaning them right after shooting.
I saw a bud who shot the heck out of his one weekend and the next weekend he got around to cleaning it the thing was almost rendered useless.

Im use to shooting corrosive ammo and clean as soon as I'm done so that wont be a problem for me.

I hear a lot of them are real accurate as well,the new ones now shoot just as well as cartrige rifles now.

I am pretty proficient with the 45 out to 100. I can ring a 12x18 steel just about ever shot with Maxiball. I have a 54 Hawken back in PA that will be sent out soon. I am currently researching a kit based upon a rifle that was used by my Grandfather x6 in the Revolutionary War. It is still in my family, in fact, one of my distant cousins still owns it. It is a 50 cal percussion. I am going to clone it and keep it for an heirloom for my family. The cool story with the rifle is that I have a copy of his will before he enlisted to fight the British. He survived the war, but was later killed in an Indian raid.

No,it was in New York-If it was in Colorado I.m sure it would have been good to go.
He basicly had to ream the barrel out to get out all the residue and rust.
Plus the hammer locks were seized.
