Today, I was headed to the transportation office to arrange my flight details to Qatar this summer. This assignment is truly a crap job for me. I will be serving in a position below my pay grade so it has absolutely no career value for me.

Anyway, as I pulled into the parking lot one of my old battalion commanders (current Army 06) called me. I had previously told him about this assignment and he was calling to ask if I wanted him to get my orders changed to work for him in DC. Wow! Of course I said yes, so now I have to wait to see if he can swing it.

It is funny how things work out.

Is DC better than Qatar?

LOL. Good question.

I hate being away and Qatar is a 1 year tour without the family so I would say yes DC is better :)

Also, what is your friend's name? If it is Jesus, then I have an answer to your original question.

Not Jesus, but in this case it should be!

One time my PSG was too busy making fun of me for being fat. He made me carry the platoon's bags inside our new digs. They rest of the platoon went back for the rest of our stuff about 50miles away. They were ambushed on the way. All of our guys were okay, a HETT driver was wounded, but sometimes I wonder if I would have went.

It is weird how things play out.

Only gun ownership wise.
Up side is closer to family, as needed.

Well, there are certainly lots of unfriendlies in DC, so I would say it's the same place with marginally better weather :). Good luck to you. RLTW.

This! Congrats though... we'll miss you here in the Centennial State, but in the words of a MSG I learned quite a bit from (what he was doing at Drum? HOR) "DC is a magical place, it sucks a big green [you know what] but damn is it ever good for your career in some instances if you play your cards right and rub shoulders with the right folks." Hope you get the good word soon! [Beer]

I truly don't have a desire to go to D.C. I certainly won't live there, so I will have to commute. There are big opportunities there as well for life after the military. I will just have to wait and see.

I was almost murdered once in DC. Never came close to being murdered in Qatar, so... Tough question. The National Mall area is nice, the rest of the distric is a sh!thole.

To OP, hope it works out for you. I'd rather work in DC than spend another second of my life in Qatar. Or anywhere in the Mid East.

My thoughts exactly. I truly hate the Middle East.
