Last fall, Powell engaged in, and perhaps created, a sport in which participants ride mountain bikes on a course and fire handguns at targets. Along with the sport, Powell created the Police Bike Action Shooting Association Inc. (PBASA). Memberships are available for individuals and bicycling clubs.
...

Powell’s sport is based on Cowboy Mounted Shooting, which is basically the same thing except players ride horses instead of bikes. (Powell rode horses his whole life until he retired from the Army Corps of Engineers after 39 years.)

He set up a one-tenth-mile track on property near Marianna, where he tied balloons to six stakes, and loaded his six-shot .357 Ruger with blanks that fire “corn cob media” that spray tiny flaming particles that can pop a balloon from about 20 feet.

It'll never get respect if you have to wear those funny shorts.

hmm... looks like "mounted shooting" for those that can't/won't ride a horse...[Coffee]

The more, the merrier in my book. I'd prefer a motorcycle/dirt bike obstacle course with jumps/muds/etc though to a pedal.

It could be a Colorado/Redneck duathlon - ride your mountain bike through the woods and take down the targets...I am in.

[Beer] I bet there are more firearms enthusiasts with bicycles than there are with horses so I say let it roll.

Like trying to make a 1000yd shot with a BB gun or fly fish with a spinner rod, it's the right tool (short) for the job. [Coffee]

Besides, they keep your junk out of harms way.

I'd be down for some cycle shootin'. [UZI]

You are right and I was totally wrong to snark at a way of encouraging safe and fun ways to shoot guns. The methods used for those rounds would make them acceptable in places where lead spitting firearms would be too dangerous.

The original story was mountain bikes. With a little work, and borrowing rules from similar sports, there could be a dirt bike version. It might even get a younger crowd than the usual AARP+ groups I see at gun clubs and some shooting events. By demonstrating the safety part it might even be welcomed at some moto-cross places.

I was in no way insulting people that can't/won't ride horses...
my wife wants me to be a cowboy way more than I do... [ROFL1]

I'll 2nd the motocross version!!! that sounds AWESOME!
but you have to have courses that use double-barrel shotguns, too!

I wouldn't say that. They are funny little shorts. [Beer]
