Ok so we have this huge, has to be male coyote paying our street a visit almost nightly at 9:00pm,the neighbors near my home have chickens so he seems to start on their property,Sunday night he attacked and killed the neighbors dog across the street from me(a toy yorkie)anyway i see this yote almost nightly and i want to eliminate him,so what do i do?or how do i do it?i do hunt coyotes, but i cant shoot him due to the residential neighborhood, and i also live in Denver,so im stuck,i have an E-caller,and lots of mouth calls, decoys etc,do i try to call him in close from my rooftop and nail him with a crossbow?problem is i dont have a crossbow, any loaners out there or somone want to help me out?ideas anything would be great,DOW wont do anything but "educate"on coyotes etc,so any advice would be great,or any help in any way would be gladly appreciated,i live off of lowell and hampden near Bear Creek, the Hat Park etc..........thanks
I have a crossbow, but I don't think I can help.
A). Id bet still illegal to shoot with a crossbow in Denver.
B). Every bolt and broadhead would be toast on that pavement after missing or going through a yote like butter. $40 per shot, doesn't sound too fun.
Trap with bait maybe? Poisoned bait, away from friendly pets?
Not sure what else.

If you're a hunter, you probably have a current small game license so DOW probably won't give a crap if you whack a 'yote on your property. Unfortunately, the People's Republic of Denver will go apoplectic over discharging a deadly weapon within their utopia. If a Denver cop sees you on the rooftop with a crossbow, they would treat it the same as if you had a rifle. You could end up in serious trouble or worse.
You might be able to trap it and have DOW come relocate it. You can't legally trap it and transport a live animal without getting a permit from DOW. Give them a call first. I would imagine the PRD has a tree hugger ordinance against trapping so maybe there's nothing you can do.
I'll bet poisoning is also illegal in PRD. Maybe you could tell them it looks like a pit bull :)
Call animal control. If they give you some bullshit about it not being their problem, call 9News...
Don't try to shoot it or otherwise kill it yourself in Denver, you'll end up arrested for harassing wildlife or something at best, discharging a deadly weapon at worst.
Also, FYI, my 350fps crossbow with dual string stops is easily as loud as 22 Short

Call DOW

Use an Atlatl or a speer, rope it like a steer, throw a tomahawk at it...[Stooge]
on a serious note.. you could live trap it or call DOW or Animal control.
I wouldn't risk shooting it, not even with a crossbow.

Say you think it has rabies.
What do you know you're not a doctor, it may get someone's attention.

And my suppressor on a bolt action is quieter

My point exactly. The cross bow isn't the stealth weapon most think they are. They are actually pretty loud, and will draw attention at night.

I used to live right there...I took pics of 2 huge coyotes in that field next to that college over there...i wanted to shoot them over there as well but thought better of it..its not worth it man...
I heard that coyote robbed a bank in Aurora earlier this week. Perhaps an anonymous tip to Aurora PD with the intersection that you see him in will help you out. Don't be home when you call though.

.22 pellet gun?
Still considered in some town / cities as discharging a firearm.
I suggest about 1 lb of alpo and 1lb or DCon that should make the yote someone elses problem. DOW is useless.

And someone's dog gets out of the yard and eats it and you end up on 9 News as the psycho dog killer ... probably get charged with felony animal cruelty.
Call DOW first, if they do nothing call Animal Control and report a rabid yote.
Set out some Alpo or hamburger mixed with antifreeze and maybe some other poisons. It's a marauding coyote, who cares if it "suffers" a little? Just make sure it's where a pet can't get it. A blowgun might work, if you have something effective to dip the dart in. Perhaps even a bow and arrow?
Beware of firing a gun in city limits..... in this day and age, who knows what cities and PD's have those gunshot locator systems that can triangulate and pinpoint where shots are fired to within a few feet? Then you'll get a visit.
I've always wanted a suppressed bolt rifle, sure would come in handy at times......gives me wood just thinking about it!

if it attacked you, you may be able to justify shooting it in the city...
other than that, good luck
Shoot shovel shut up. Don't get seen.

Call an expert animal control person, split the cost. If you get caught even trapping it, and someone sees it (goofy lib) they can sue you. Do it legal. They can sue professional trappers if some kid sees the trapped animal and is 'traumatized'. Coyotes are always killing small cats and dogs. City won't care.
Go on ebay and buy some caster beans, have them sent somewhere that won't be close to your neighborhood, like a friends house (about 15 will do the trick easily). Go to walmart and buy a cheap coffee bean grinder, and some hamburger. Put on latex gloves from this point on... Put the caster beans in the grinder and grind them up. Put the ground up caster bean content in the hamburger and mix it evenly. Put the hamburger where you know the yote will get it (and off your property and away from other's animals if possible) and know it will be gone shortly. Bag up all the stuff that touched the caster beans and discard of it at some far away dumpster.
Caster beans have a very large quantity of ricin in them and will take care of anything...
Anyway, there ya go. [Beer]
Yea, thats great, how bout you caster bean your post/?

[LOL] I was wondering the same thing...
Sounds like someone was a little, drunk?
I don't think he liked your suggestion about the castor beans. (yes, castor, not caster). And ricin is so deadly, I don't think I'd want to take the chance of grinding up the beans and breathing the dust.

buy or borrow alive animal trap, bait it with raw chicken, if you accidently catch a dog, cat , coon or any other animal, let them go, if you geta yote, loadit all up in the family truckster, take a ride to my place and I will shoot Wiley for you, he can then help fertilize my field!

It doesn't dust like that, it has a lot of oil in it, makes a past like stuff. [Beer] The danger is from the oil seeping into your poors, hense the gloves. Anyway, it's easy to do, quiet, not much work to put into it, and very effective.
I don't get why he wouldn't like the idea since we are talking about getting rid of the animal anyway...

get a live trap and a chickin. then you can politely relocate him. Or make him into a nice wall hanger.

Ammonia soaked rags placed near the coop will work. If that doesn't work, I vote .22 subsonic and a suppressor. Good luck.
