Oh cr@p! LTC? And I thought you were unmanageable before....

Er, what I meant to say was: Congratulations!

Honestly, I thought you were an (well educated) enlisted guy by your down-to-earth comments; it must be the prior enlisted detail. I didn't suspect you were an officer and certainly not someone planning to pin on O5.

Given the tenor and content of your posts here I feel confident in saying that this promotion is very well deserved. That gift from your dad is spectacular. While many believe that Col North went down in disgrace, I believe he fell on the sword for other parties and I have a great deal of respect for that man.

The question now is: Are WE invited to your promotion party? We'll leave the strippers elsewhere so as not to cause any problems.

Unfortunately, I have been partying all day/night. A fresh keg of 1554 makes every party better :).

I appreciate the comments. Not all officers are stuck-up pricks sitting behind desks [Beer] I am still just a kid who gets paid to do what I like.

Pretty much. Signed up when I was 18. I still have the tattoo to prove it (even though I am getting it removed). [Beer]

Somehow, I missed this.

Of course, you've received your lobotomy already? It's common knowledge by everyone above and below TSgt that ALL TSgt's must have had a lobotomy. Apparently, according to the "Top 3", you finally overcome this once you get promoted to MSgt. Until then though, you have to get a stained coffee mug and develop the "TSgt pose" to use while issuing out orders. I never did get that down correctly before I retired but I think I have it down pat now as a scum-sucking contractor.

Party on Garth!!

My experience with prior enlisted was 2 distinct types of officers:
(1) The total pricks looking to get pay-back for every perceived injury from all of those who ever outranked them.
(2) Those who remembered their roots and the hardships the enlisted encounter. They remembered to reach down and help the next guy up (in my opinion, this is one of the most important duties of every leader).

Thankfully, I didn't run into too many of the first group through my career.

Party on Wayne.

(But, in keeping with the US Army theme & partying...listen to this (from Stripes)

You will but like me it will be on the normal (slow) timeline. You missed the days of folks pinning MAJ within 7-8 years. I was too old in my career for that nonsense.

Stay safe over there and say hi to the governor for me! [Beer]

Yep! I'm also the acting Chief of Stan/Eval, soon to be THE Chief of Stan/Eval, so the lobotomy was mandatory.

At least if I did really get a lobotomy I would have an excuse for volunteering to have way more responsible than most in my pay grade but still getting paid the same [BooHoo]

Naw, he was already a major, so he had already assumed the field grade self-importance. Now he's an O5, bucking for command, so he's going to show some sense. Once he makes O6, however, the potential of a star starts messing with the brain again.

Or at least that's how I remember it through a junior officer's eyes. ;)

Congratulations, Colonel.

When was that? I remember O2 in 18 months, O3 at 4.5 years, Major at around 11-12. This was the late 80s.

Beginning around 2005, the Army did not have enough CPTs and MAJs. Unfortunately, I pinned MAJ in 05 so I missed the free cheese.

Folks were all pinning on CPT in under 36 months - they also received bonuses. If you were good, you could pin MAJ in 7 years. They just reversed this and now it is 2 years to 1LT and 2 more to CPT. 10 years is your average to MAJ. For a while I had 1LTs showing up to me after their training. It was stupid.

I was the standard 2 to 1LT, 2 more to CPT and so on.....
