I think Pep Boys used to rent bays, but I'm told they don't anymore. Are there any places around that rent lift-equipped auto repair bays by the day to do-it-yourselfers?

I'm looking for something that is as close as possible to downtown Denver. Any suggestions would be appreciated. [usa]

Pretty sure he wasn't asking for free, he did say "rent".

Is that really what it would take to close a bay for a day in your shop? Seems excessive, but what do I know.

HunterCO, judging by all the rolling eyes you posted, I think you misunderstood my reply to your offer.

I am not looking for a "FREE" bay and I understand that buildings and equipment are not "FREE". You can charge whatever you want for your facility, but it does not mean that I will automatically rent it at that rate just because I'm looking for a bay.

I passed on your offer not because I think you charge too much, but because it does not make sense for me to rent a bay for $1,000 per day to perform some minor repairs.

You see, at the rate of $1,000 per day plus parts, it would cost me about three times more to do the repairs myself than it would cost to have them done at the dealer.

HunterCO...

I just saw that you edited your original reply to include the part about me "bringing my craftsman tools so you can laugh your arse off".

I mistakenly thought that your original reply was a helpful offer to rent a bay to me for $1,000 per day.

Not sure what you have against people repairing their own cars, but I guess that settles the issue of renting from you.[/quote]

Very good now that you have figured it out go to the dealer or better yet rent your own bay and pay for all the lifts and do it your self. After all you have figured it all out.

Thanks for not wasting my time!

Welcome to the real world.
I am more than willing to help you as I would any member here. On the other hand if it is so minor why would you need to rent a bay?

If he's in a situation like I am, the apartment complex won't let you work on cars in the parking lot.

I can change my own oil for about $10 in parts, but without the space to do it, I get to go pay some quick-lube place $20+ for it (and they usually don't let the oil drain fully, etc. etc. ). Similarly, I can do plugs/wires/ff/af/etc myself just fine, but not according to my apartment complex. I've done a tune-up in the lot before without them saying anything about it, but it's pretty quick & easy on my car.

just take your car to Camelot Auto Care and be done with it!
Besides, you'll more than likely see a return on your money (probably at a team shoot)

I understand that but look at the other side. Let me show an example last saturday I went out to dinner with my family. We went to Texas Road House I had prime rib. My plate was $16 plus drinks, tip and tax of course. I could have bought that dinner for under $5 at a grocery store. The problem is that building I sat in was not free, the waitress does not work for free, the cook does not work for free, the dishwasher does not work for free, the insurance on that place is not free, the utillities are not free, the workmans comp is not free, the booth I sat in was not free, I could go on for ten pages I think you get my point.

Maybe I should have protested my bill and let them know I could have bought that same dinner at the grocery store for $5. Better yet I should have bought my food at a grocery store and went in and asked how much they would charge me to rent the kitchen and a booth.

I didn't mean any offense and I had a bad day yesterday and probably should not have even posted.

I don't think you understand or have any idea what the over head is to run a shop. Renting a bay is like trying to sell water door to door you will end up living under a bridge. If there even was a place willing to do it I don't even want to know what their insurance would cost if they could even get any.

As I stated I will help you and you are welcome to PM me. I have helped other members here.

Yeah, I know it all costs money, but the guy was just asking if anywhere around rents shop space by the hour. Nobody here asked for free shop space, nor free or even cheaper car work by a professional, which your little restaurant analogy would be pointing to.

The only reason I haven't seriously considered this 'shop space for rent' as a business (having worked just about every job at a 3 bay garage/gas station except mechanic and accountant) is that insurance on such a place would be a nightmare.

the military have a facility on some bases/posts called the 'auto/hobby shop' (~) where you can do just what the man is looking for... I don't think Buckly has one ...yet.

It sucks being self reliant and not having the space to do things... Thats another reason I'm wanting a house.... I miss my tools!!!! [pirate2]

Even if such a thing existed, I wonder how much it would cost...$80-$100/day maybe? You might as well have the oil changed for $25 at the quick-lube.

Even though you had to withstand a little http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o86/Atrain_dlp/SlapComputer.gif, it sounds like HunterCO is offering you a place where you can do some simple work on your ride without your neighbors calling the HOA cops on you. Shoot, you don't even need to take up one of his bays to do that kind of stuff anyway.

Yes the military has its perks, that is one of them.
