New to the AK scene and was wondering if anybody can recommend a cheaper site and scope mount for my AK. Kinda looking for something with a red dot and where the hell do I mount the site on the wood.

Thanks everyone!

http://dpharms.com/products/ak-47_accessories/beryl_style_scope_mount.html

It slides into where the rear sight leaf goes and goes over the reciever cover and screws into where the stock bolts into the rear tang.

The other option is to drill into the side of the reciever and rivit in a scope rail, then your limited to comblock style scopes and rails.

There are also several good options here.

Did that come with the screws Jim?
Or did you do the nut and bolt trick??

By far Jim's siderail is the cheapest way to go,unless of course you want to go all out Rachel Ray on it and have the "correct" one for it [LOL]

Has the Ultimak option gone out of style?

Has the Ultimak option gone out of style?
Thats also a good option as well(still in style too[Tooth] )
But I prefer something thats more solidly mounted and holds zero better.
I have seen some that are rock solid and hold zero quite well ,but they are pricy.
Different flavors for different budgets.

The ultimak is nice but not a quick to remove an optic if batteries take a crap and it's much easier to remove vs no gloves and gas tube optic.

Actually rachael was involved with the install. He's slowly learning no TALKING when i am using anything with moving parts:)
This was mounted utilizing incl hardware. I am probably going to change the hardware out for something a bit longer with sturdier nuts. the stuff that came with the rail is sub zero on the hardness scale.
As an afterthought iprobably could have done a few plug welds OR used RR's spot welder. Then again not knowing what mixed material utg has ????

yeah it was an easy install but the hardware did seem a little cheesy. as for a cheap red dot and mount this would be a good option

ultimak is one of the few ak mounting options that allows for cowitness if you use the right red dot.

I really want to drill the side mount off of mine after tearing my hand open.

That is one + about the ultimak unit. I like this as it's less clutter, for now.

you're not running an ak right if you're not bleeding ;)

i don't care about co-witnessing my optic to my irons if im using an ak because the quick release on a side rail (should the optic truly fail) literally takes about 5 seconds to remove. to each their own though

what I do to aks would give you nightmares.

Then you should drop by when jreif and co are over. Bring your darkening glasses.
I'm of the opinion what ever firearm you own, it's yours to mess around with. Providing the end result is one that presents no safety hazards to owner or those around them.

I'm of the same opinion as Jim, I just personally enjoy the combloc method of operation. I like to voice what I personally like if people ask on a thread but if someone prefers different mods more power to them. Also being an ak enthusiast I'm what some people would call cheap (I say I'm frugal) so that's another reason I like the combloc accessories lol. On a side note I still want to finally assemble an m4 and slap a combloc red dot or kobra on it just to make ar snobs cringe haha.

Jim, what you said reminds me of something..... So put in your ear plugs, put on your eye shades, you know where to put the cork lol

I went with a Midwest industries rail system. It's really well made, easy to install and looks great. I then mounted an Eotech 512 on the rail.
No it wasn't the cheapest option but I know it's a great reliable package. Just my 2 cents..
The next mod is a Krebs peep sight.
I love working on these guns!!
