Does anyone have a walk in safe or purchased and installed just a safe door? I've got a great spot in the basement for a gun safe. Concrete on 3 sides about 6 feet wide and 4 - 5 feet deep with 9 foot ceiling. I'm thinking of pouring 3 - 6" of concrete ontop of the existing floor in case the basement were to flood.
Do I need to do anything special to mount the door? Right now I'm thinking of bolting angle iron to the wall and welding steel for the door frame. Inside I would line with dry wall and carpet with shelf ware.
Has anyone taken on a similar project? I'm looking for suggestions on framing for the safe door?
Thanks,
I saw these guys at the Colorado Garden & Home Show yesterday. http://www.ftknox.com/ The Vender's name was Hilltop Safes out of Windsor Co. 970-686-5855 they had a door at the show and I think they Install them. Very nice set up. Great quality but, expensive.

Talk to RYAN50BMG he has a awsome walk in safe and I hate him for it. :P
arfcom has quite a following of peeps who've built their own walk-in's.
they could probably provide more insite.

i did a steel firedoor, those come with steel frame as 1 unit. i lag bolted that to where the old door frame was. also welded 3/16 steel plate down the seam. this way they can't get a crowbar in there. and on firedoor's the hinges, while exposed can only be disassembled from inside . lined inner wall with aluminium plate.

run electricty, this way you can plug in one of those electric driers (goldenrod?) AND you have light. go with a rubber mat. like they have in workshops. carpet holds moisture, and it's flammable. PLUS if you drop something (like a 50cal can of ammo it does not wake the spouse !
