View Full Version : How often do you clean..
I clean any mags I use after I shoot when I clean my gun. Having a dirty mag is like wearing dirty underwear.[Rant2]

That's a bad thing right?
I clean them when they get dirty.
That's a bad thing right?
I suppose dirty underwear is bad.[ROFL1]
Really I usually just clean the follower and out side the mag. I don't strip down the mag or anything, not like I get to shoot much all the ammo has been bought for the Zombie Apocalypse so I got to horde what I have.

I clean them when they fail or when I change the springs.

Every time I drop them.....
......on the ground.
After they are in the dirt, get extremely wet, or when I have them apart. I have mags that are probably 10k through them without cleaning.
I clean them when they get dirty.

Clean magazines. Maybe pistol, never rifle. When a Rifle mags stops working they are worn out of spec. Pistol mags and subjective to the gun.

you guys clean your mags? granted i have 1 ar15 that ive shot twice. but the only time ive cleaned mags are a couple of ak mags right before i restored and re-blued them and when i bought black painted east german ak74 mags i wiped the black paint off with denatured alcohol.
Drop one in the mud, and you will want to clean it.
magazine clips?
Yeah my gun pistol :p

magazine clips?
Bingo!
I have magazines which may get a swirl in the solvent tank if they are gritty or such and my clips get a wipe down.
But my magazine clips never get cleaned. Usually when I clip something from a magazine it gets clipped to a notebook or bulleten board and the magazine gets filed for future reference.

I wont even comment on "magazine clips". Why anyone would say that makes no sense to me.
I clean my magazines if they came in contact with a gritty substance. If not, then I will clean them annually if they were used anytime that year.
Clean magazines are very important, a bind in your spring due to mud or rocks can make all those rounds totally unusable in that moment. Cleaning your mags also gives you a chance to check feed lips, spring strength, and base plate integrity.
I just usualy check my mags after I use them at the range for debris and obstructions, then wipe them down with a little oil.

if i drop an ak mag in the mud i just piss in it though i guess that's considered cleaning it haha actually a ukrainian buddy of mine was literally taught to piss in his ak barrel to clean it in combat situations during basic training haha
I might have cleaned some of my magazines ONE time in the last 10,000 rounds or so.

Hopefully he let it cool down first! That could hurt! [ROFL2]

One of the nice things about the AR platform is how reliable it is even when not inspection clean. I have gone months in the field with out doing anything but a few punches of the bore and some brushing of the bolt carrier and never had an issue. I had the same reliability as the guy who spent hours on his rifle. I would give the whole thing a good cleaning when it went back in the armory though. Though the mags got blown own and wiped down with a rag and that was it.
I clean my mags after every time that I use them.

Maybe once every year or two, depending on how much I use them. If one gets dirty or muddy, I'll hose it out (pmags) and give it a drop of oil on the spring.

Ivy cleaned out my AK mags in the past but none of the others. When I do clean them, they just get wiped down.

Your supposed to clean them???????????? [Dunno]
I hardly ever clean them to be honest. Once I start getting malfunctions I clean them good.

Guess so? The only mags that I own that I would consider cleaning would be the Ruger 22/45 mags, but even those haven't been cleaned. Other than that none of my mags have ever been cleaned. Then again I haven't shot 10,000 rounds through any of the guns I own.

I clean mine after I wipe my ass with it
I have never cleaned any of my magazines or En-Bloc clips. Never had a failure due to a mag yet.
