Picked up a Troy low profile gas block to put a long free float on. Put on the gas block and the rifle wont cycle. When I put on the old DPMS gas block, it cycles just fine.

The only functional difference I notice is that the Troy low pro gas tube hole is drilled all the way through the block. I notice there is some discharge forward from the gas block. Am I losing too much pressure through this front outlet to cycle? What is the solution?

I don't think the hole should all the way through... Lemme look at mine.

Mine doesn't have the hole all the way through, the one that I have is troy low profile gas block

Is it possibly mounted bassackwards and blocking the port? Was recoil more substantial with the Troy?

This was my first thought. Checked and re-checked. It's on right. No noticeable recoil difference.

This is the picture of the block from Troy, seems like they designed it with the hole all the way through.

The link you put up shows an oversized gas block. Is this the right size for you barrel? Just something I noticed. Good luck getting your rifle going.

I use that exact same block on one of my uppers. No issues.

Make sure the gas port is lined up correctly.

Used plenty of similar ones. The hole all the way through is fine, that end of the gas tube is sealed. You will get some gas forward on the micro gas blocks(low profile, and short length blocks). Not enough to really tell until your go to clean off the outside of the barrel and get a little residue on the patch.

Make sure it's lined up. Pull it apart and stick a small punch through the barrel and block to make sure the holes are unobstructed.

did you put on a new gas tube or use the old one. how old is the rifle. the new block could have pushed old carbon and gunked up the system somewhere. its either blocked somewhere or leaking.

What ever happened to this problem? Did the problem get found and fixed???

DOH!
I just fixed a similar issue with a home build a couple of weeks ago.
The owner had inadvertently installed the gas tube upside down.
They don't cycle so goodly iffins one does that!

Not sure I can picture the mechanics of that without bending the tube.

Well it was a 20" so the misalignment was a bit subtle[Coffee]
He didn't bend the tube but it looked funky.

I had a similar problem with one of mine on a rifle length upper. I had it misaligned just a tiny bit and it was enough to prevent the gun from cycling on 55 grain .223 but it would cycle on 62 grain m855. It is hard to tell if they are off just a little because there is not a sight post sticking up to reference off of and the allen screws to tighten it on do not index like pinned gas blocks.

Sorry to keep you all waiting on this. I am using a gas tube that is not new (1000 rounds) it was cleaned every 250 or so and does not appear obstructed. The gas block is and was properly mounted. All holes lined up. Gas tube oriented properly.

Because I am studying for the bar I have not been able to shoot it recently since I broke it down.

The dams block operated the gun perfectly, the Troy failed to cycle. Went from Troy to DBMS and back to Troy.

After trying a number of different combinations, I switched out the flat-wire spring for a standard spring and she runs like a dream. Thanks for the input guys.
