Just built my first AR, I'm looking for feed back. I'm also looking for an optic to test out the 18" Rainer Arms barrel on the gun. Thoughts? Posting pics soon.

welcome to the addiction! Are you going with magnified optics? don't know much about them, but I hear the leatherwood cmr 1-4x are nice and affordable. Don't forget that Larue prices are going up soon if you wanna get a mount. waiting for pics too!

Welcome. Please tell us how it shoots. Zero the open sights before you put glass on it. Then you will know whether magnified is necessary.

What types of distance are you looking for from this rifle.

I'm guessing that is carbine length gas tube on the 18" barrel and the gas block is under the hand guard. Is the barrel free floated?

Ok, I'll fess up, I helped him order/build this (slash built most of it for him). Will answer a couple of questions for him too, since he is a n00b to ARs and might not know the answers to all.

It shoots amazingly. Sights are zeroed. He needs to get it somewhere to let the legs stretch out a distance on it though.

Its and 18" rainier match, 223 wylde barrel. He wants to take it to 500-600yds, so he will likely want/benefit from an optic.

Its mid-length. We built the lower while he was waiting on upper parts. The upper parts came in and he hand fitted together to get the pic, with no gas block. That was an inside joke giving him a ribbing for posting that pic when he can take a pic of it completed now.

Is the barrel free floated?

Hey! That's my scope!
Love it btw... [Tooth]

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your new rifle!
What twist is the barrel? Getting out to 5-600yds w/ any accuracy will take a pretty heavy bullet...
