Are their different pmag molds and models?

Are their any lowers that dont run with p-mags?

The only difference that I know of is P-Mag vs. E-Mag. The E-Mag was designed to work with rifles like the HK416 while the P-Mag should work in any standard AR lower.

The mags come with a cover, that covers the round when loaded. If you don't use them, will the mags warp? If that is what they're for.

I think it's to keep pressure of the feed lips for extended storage.

Thanks D, so no need for them on a range trip.

In addition to providing feed lip protection, the cover also provides dust/grit/shit protection.

Pmags have also been scientifically proven to make your gun shoot straighter and in the event someone sneaks up on you, kill the turd before he sinks a knife into your gullet.

Honestly, I didn't know what a Pmag was until a buddy, an infantry lieutenant, told me it is the only mag he and his guys carry in country. My life rarely depends on my magazine, but his recommendation is all i needed.

Some great videos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCFXcOOb4jc) on the web showing guys just kicking the . . . poop out of different mags to give you an idea of the durability.

+1 for video, i'm glad they did the functionality test at the end.

Also told that pmags can be checked to fly commercially when fully loaded with cover on -as they are viewed as sufficient storage devices with lid on.

I keep my pmags loaded with 28 rounds and I dont use the dust covers. Ive never had any issues with feed lip warp. 1 mag has been loaded for 2 years and still functions just fine. Never had any issues from dropping mags in all versions of the pmag. As far as the models and revisions go:

*original pmag 30: has high ribs, comes in windowed and non windowed versions
*Rev M pmag 30: lower ribs (supposedly drops better from shitty lowers) Dust cover clips on the bottom of the mag. I think they have an improved follower. comes in windowed and non windowed versions
*Emag 30: These work in AR15/M16 variants as well as all STANAG type rifles. Dust cover clips on the bottom of the mag as well and Ive only seen them in windowed versions.

I would like to add that only emag and rev m are good to go w/ SCAR 16s. You can always enlarge the feed on the non rev m to be safely used w/ SCAR.

My buddy had an AR built on a Superior Arms lower. Great lower, but the mag well was a little tight. Revision M Pmags worked in it just fine, but first gen Pmags wouldn't even go far enough into the mag well to seat.

This is entirely dependent on which airline you are flying. TSA will allow it. Some airlines will not.

The only issue I have ever had is with a set of first gen P-mags. A tiny little crack developed just below the feed lips. Every now and then it leads to a malfunction. Fine for the range, but not what I would want if my life depended on it. Other than that, I am a huge fan. If for no other reason than you can load a full mag (30 rounds) on a closed bolt.

I was about to post this video. after viewing it, I purchased a few of them! Good to know I can still shoot it even if it's taken some damage. [AR15]

If anyone wanted to know about Pmag Extended storage... I recently recieved a reply from some questions from MagPul about extended storage.

Subject: RE: PMAG Question (Long-Term Storage)

Thank you for your inquiry. The factor that truly wears out quality springs is compression cycles, not constant compression. However, we use a high-quality stainless steel springs in our PMAGs and if one ever does happen to wear out any USGI spec spring can be swapped out for the factory one.
Regarding the question of how long, we’ve had magazines fully loaded for over four years now with no Impact/Dust Cover on and have experienced no feed lip or spring issues. With the cover installed storage life is considered indefinite. There have also been PMAGS reportedly tested to hundreds-of-thousands of rounds (military vetting), and we know positively of ones that have gone tens-of-thousands, so usable life is quite excellent too.

Dust covers won't fit on the bottom side of the new gen 3 like the old gen 2 if you can buy any with the covers.
