I heard hype on this during the week...a 7th Gen Wallenda walking the Falls at the most intense point...then I read this...WTF...the dude was wearing safety gear so he wouldn't fall? What kinda half-ass daredevil-less poop is that? Lame...

"ABC televised the walk and insisted Wallenda use a tether to keep him from falling in the river. Wallenda said he agreed because he wasn't willing to lose the chance and needed ABC's sponsorship to help offset some of the $1.3 million cost of the spectacle."

I heard the tv networks made him do ot in order to televise. It was lame with the safety gear.

It was the only way they would allow it. He definitely did not want the safety gear.

And you would do it without? Ins liability has a lot of "reality" shows CYA.

Or would any of you even dare attempt this at all?

Only the ones who can engage a shooter from 65+ yards, with a hand gun.

His grandfather was my math teacher, junior year in high school. He was the brother that saved his sisters life by catching her by her hair when the family all fell off the wire. he grabbed the wire in the crotch of his arm and caught his sister as she went by.

they are 7th generation high wire performers, used to do a 7 man pyramid with no safety net, wires etc. The network made them wear the wire. his family performs all over the world even today.

Wallenda was one of my favorite teachers, he never performed again after the fall.

I always thought to be "scammed", a person had to loose money on something. So did someone put money on weather or not a tether would be used or not?

I wouldn't step foot on a 2" cable strung across a swimming pool, let alone one across those Falls.

Beh...

If it were *ME* I'd have used only two-point attached paracord, no "tether," I'd have ran and not walked, I'd have had a shiny revolver in each hand instead of a counter-balance pole and would demonstrate effectively taking out 200m - 600m 'pop-up' targets along the way without missing the X-ring (because I never miss, ever) and I'd probably have tossed-in in a few reloads and demonstrated some cover techniques along the way just to make it more interesting.

Further, I would have cancelled all insurance policy's prior, would never have solicited funding from a main-stream network, I'd have aligned myself with the crew of Jackass to get the event on film for a long-term income opportunity and most certainly I would have immortalized the spectacle on YouTube for short-term self-gratification and to generate thread wars about my skills and prowess. I'm almost certain I would have inserted a couple of real-time 'crotch-grabs' to woo any fat-chicks in the crowd (high-wire groupies exist I presume) and I would have performed a hand-spring or two along the way as well but I'm still practicing those.

Lastly, the pinnacle of my performance would have been to stop mid-stunt, pull-out a ruler and my mule, and measure my 12" flacid-state pecker publically as an added bonus for all the rubes to gawk and awe at...and I would have done all that TWICE!

Seriously, I didn't see it and only had passing awareness as I heard the advertising propaganda this past week and then I read about the safety gear after-the-fact. Based on that, I still submit this was a "lame-ass, boring, low-risk, revenue generating event to capitilize on the Wallenda surname and nothing more." Something I would probabaly do too if I were carrying the name.

I saw the tether, how large the cable was, and how long that balance pole was, and I'd like to try something like that.

I have no interest in that stuff and i didnt watch it. But ya doing that with a harness or what ever kinda takes the whole dare devil out if it? I understand he didnt want the stuff though.

Being an Iron worker in the olden days we did not wear harness's.
Now it is mandatory.
I only fell 3 x's and am still here, even though I broke my neck the last time.

The guy did it in the wet, wind etc.
If he had of slipped the harness would have maybe saved him but he would not have been able to get back on the cable think about it.
