BB35, USS Texas, continues to suffer the ravages of time and a hostile environment. Like so many other relics of wars past USS Texas doesn't get the care she needs due to lack of funding and the other physical difficulties of actually making needed repairs to a ship that can't be easily moved.

Any work done to the ship has to be done in place. Not ideal circumstances for sure.

It's a shame so many old veterans like USS Texas are basically just rotting away, despite the attempts by some (who don't really have adequate resources) to save them.

I have vivid memories of visiting USS Texas several times each summer as a kid...just like the article states...running on the decks and climbing on the guns. It was a pretty awesome sight, for sure. Still have pictures somewhere. I'll have to find 'em.

We visited the USS Texas a couple of times as a kid. One of the highlights of family vacations. Great memories.

One of the family vaction highlights to Texas as a kid.

Probably one of the reasons I joined the Navy was because of how awesome I thought it would be to be stationed on her

It's a shame to let some of our history just rust away.

Yesterday I had the chance to visit the USS Slater here in Albany NY.
Absolutely amazing what the volenteers did to restore her.

I went and saw the Texas a couple times when we lived in Houston; first ship like it I'd seen up close. I remember how impressive it was; I also remember the concrete they'd put on the decks (I understand they've since removed it). I've taken every chance since to see other Battlewagons and Carriers since. The Massachusetts and Missouri were both very impressive, as was the Midway when I took the family to San Diego last February. The kids loved it, as I loved the Texas when my dad took me when I was around their age. It's sad to see a proud ship like the Texas in less than the shape she was in when she served; especially one as unique and special as Texas is, as the last of the Dreadnoughts.
