Hey All
That time again of the week. Whihc should I get. This will be mainly for work and accessing emails
and that is the biggest thing I will be using it for. I dont care about music as I would use Pandora or
any of the other free internet radio stuff. I think I could even access Sirius on it
and rock out to that when I feel like it. Movies, well thats what i have a TV for.
So all in all based on the work use, what would you folks recommend?????
ETA: Holding out til whenever the Iphone 5 comes out is not an option.
Hold out for the iphone5, heard it coming out in September.
iPhone. Android is good, however I find them just to configurable to the point you have know idea what's running in the background draining your battery. I just find iPhones to be much simpler to operate and understand, not to mention the best looking screen out there. I'm sure this thread will get quite
long!,,,,

^This.
I have had Crackberrys, Driods, And the phone I most enjoy is my iphone. It could be because we have a ton of itunes stuff but it also has been the most stable and I feel is the most user friendly of of them all.
I'm a mobile device admin and I work the phones daily. I use to favor the android os over the ios, however i believe that the iPhone is a better choice. I believe the battery life is the number one reason. Nothing like having a dead phone and needing to access work emails.... Some of the newer androids have better batteries however I find the os to unstable if you are using this for work.
Android, most of the apps are free.
I would at one point have said Android.
However, now it seems they keep adding more and more bullshit apps to your phone that you CAN NOT get rid of..
They're constantly running and trying to update themselves. Things I'll never use.

Having had both now... I fondle my Motorola Razr MAXX (http://www.motorola.com/us/consumers/DROID-MAXX/better-battery/96406,en_US,pd.html) frequently and I do not see the issues with battery life.
its called a cable... plug in at the office and in the car and you are fine.
I honestly saw more battery issues with the iphone4
the Razr plays all apples AAC formats
Playable formats AAC , AAC+ , AMR NB , eAAC+ , H.263 , H.264 , MIDI , MP3 , MPEG-4 , WAV , WMA10 , WMA9 , WMA v9 my Razr has a expandable storage using Micro SD Card.
32GB of music and video + the internal storage of 16GB
Memory 15 16 GB internal; 16 GB microSD card pre-installed
I once hard raging wood for the iPhone
until they make one out of KEVLAR (tm)
CONSTRUCTION: UNBEATABLE STRENGTH
Seriously thin, DROID RAZR MAXX is the exact opposite of frail. It’s made strong with DuPont™ KEVLAR® fiber, while Corning® Gorilla® Glass defends the screen against scratches and scrapes. A force field of water-repellent nanoparticles shields the phone against water attacks — even the electrical boards inside.
so when it comes down to it... I have stopped drinking Apple Cool-aide
I Guess you could say That when comparing Apples to Gingerbread... the Gingerbread man won

iPhone, and wait for the five. I am in month six with my current droid and again it is slower than a landline. This is my fourth droid and each one makes it to six months then nose dives. Planned obsolescence should not mean self-destruct.

I'm an iPhone guy. Had one for a few years now, plan on getting the new one when it comes out if I like it better than the 4S I have now.
That said, the Droid has an app store for porn. I'm sure Ronin would know the name of it.

I really like my droid X. although it is about 2 years old, so I know there are lots of bigger better and faster ones out there now...but it works great and I can get on whatever i want on the internet.
I will consider the Iphone when I am ready to swap over. honestly I just really want the magpul case![Tooth]
forgot to mention...the one thing that really holds me back from apple...batteries. I always have a couple extra batteries and I don't think you can swap them on the iphone.
iphone, my family has 3, 4 of my friends went with droids, all but one has switched to apple. and have all 4 told me they wish they would of took my advice. I started with the 4 when verizon got it, my son has my old 4, the wife and I have the 4s and none of them have ever gave any trouble to us as far as battery life I use the crap out of mine all day long, unplug it at 04:30 and plug it in when I go to bed around 22:00 and it is still at least 15-20% and most of the time over 40% left.

I personally prefer Android.
BUT...
The best thing to do is to go fondle both, twist some knobs, and see which one you like best. As you can tell from the comments, different people like different things for different (or sometimes the same) reasons.

My thoughts exactly. I have a rezound and like it a lot.
I'm still on an old Blackberry... Watching this thread and looks like the iPhone has the edge. Too bad the unlocked one (for T-mobile) is so damn expensive.

I use an iPhone 4s. I'm able to do quite a bit with it, and some stuff is retardedly easy. Like connecting to a VPN is super easy. Also you can run several email accounts on it without much trouble. I've also been able to run flash on it, and onion routing without any trouble at all. Yeah I have a few gripes with it, but overall I'm very happy with it.
I've been very happy with my i-phone. I'm looking forward to the 5 when it comes out. That'll give me an excuse to ditch the d-bags at AT&T.
I say go with the i-phone.

before the great crash there was a survey out and the droid was winning something like 45% 38% 7% with the 7 being other phones. I personally like the droid. I cant drink the apple koolaid and them seeming to be holding back on there product for the next update. I feel that anything that the iPhone can do a droid can do it better.

plus look at all the iPhone users wanting/needing to update ASAP you get caught up in that cycle and you will be dropping 200 bucks every year or so

I love when droid followers bring out this stat, being that there are over 70 models that run the droid os and only 1 apple, with less than 5 versions, they even give some of the droid models away for free and can still only muster up a few more % of the market share over the iphone. ETA: forgot to mention that number is with 3 carriers for the iphone (one untill last year) as comared to the droid running on most if not all the carriers.

i think that the Iphone being locked up on AT&T for all those years is what really helped the droid take such a high percentage. There are several manufactures of droid not just Apple so of course there will be more models, but at the same time droid as taken the technology that Apple created and surpassed it. Droids have better cameras, faster processors, actual 4G LTE antennas. There are 5 models of iPhone yes but after the first iPhone other phone quickly surpassed it and since then the iPhone hasnt had the best technology available. People love the iPhone and I think that is fine I however enjoy my droid and the ability to change things how I want them, not how Apple believe I should want them.

I finally got rid of my crackberry and went with an I4S. I don't think the I4S is the best phone out there, but it has some definite advantages. When I'm overseas, I can still send messages and use Facetime to see and talk to the family, not to mention I still have the music, movies, apps, and so on. I have a Mophie juicepack on mine, so I have a full second charge for the battery without having to plug it in to get it. Big deal if you spend as much time on planes as I do. It comes down to what you like and what you'll use it for, in the end. iPhone has lots of free apps too, and a lot of the ones that are not free are $.99. Doesn't hurt that my laptop is a MacBook Pro, either...

Once you jail break, that problem is gone, I can run pretty much anything now and the phone is totally custom to how I set it.
I had a droid and had to replace it 3 times in a years time, do I went with the iPhone and haven't looked back. Plus it just looks way better IMO.

I have both. The iphone is easier but if you like to customize droid wins. The droid also allows you to use SD cards. Typical apple you can't expand the iphone. You are stuck with what it has or buying another phone to upgrade.

I do love how customizable Android is. I put a slick new ROM on my Galaxy Nexus today while my wife is complaining about how she can't remove icons from her home screen on her iOS device, an iPad 2. Jail breaking is an option but you don't have to worry about going through a similar process on Android in order to simply customize the layout of your phone.
Android. Easier to find and install apps. You don't have to pay for many so when you are over them in a couple months, you can uninstall and move on.

I've gained this knowledge mostly from malware authors. IIRC, less than 400 lines of code can allow someone to: sniff SMS/MMS messages, hide SMS/MMS messages, and send SMS/MMS messages. I'm pretty sure I can find the code, if you'd want to see it.
Quick search turned this up on QR malware for Android:
http://www.wired.com/beyond_the_beyond/2011/10/qr-malware-arrives/
For all you guys talking about how customizable the Andriod is I would agree. That being said, once you jail break the iPhone it's a different animal, you can pretty much do whatever you want. I haven't paid for a single app since I jail broke my phone.
Do some searches on jail breaking iPhones or look at the vids on YouTube.....

I've owned iPhone's since their inception. While they are fine phones, I've grown bored with them. I will be going to a Galaxy S3 here in a few weeks when it comes in. Jailbroken iPhones, are about the only way to go imo. Cydia is great, but it gets old after a while. The simplicity of the iPhone is good, but also is what I find boring. It seems as if it was designed for a child lol. For me, it's more about wanting something new to play with. I plan on rooting my S3, adding ROM's and seeing what Android is all about. I am excited to try something with a larger screen as well. The display on it, as well as the HTC One X, are just gorgeous...and rival the current gen iPhone. We'll see how it goes!

No. If you root it you can get rid of bloatware. Getting rid of stuff can cause problems with OTA updates, but if you're rooted who cares.
I rooted an HTC Thunderbolt. It was awesome. My battery wouldast 2 days with moderate use, it was super fast, and no bloatware. I need to root my current TBolt, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I love the iPhone, but will not buy one. The reason?
The contract.
I do not want to be in a contract with a phone again. What a waste of money. I have a droid through Virgin Mobile- 300 minutes of talk, unlimited text, unlimited web and way more apps than I have time for- all for $25/mo with no contract. My wife has the same deal only she gets 1200 min/mo and pays $44/mo- also with no contract.
Yes, she talks more than I do.

Go with a prepaid android phone through verizon. For reasons already stated.
I have been iPhone for quite a while but am also considering trying a droid device.
I have an iPhone and my bro has a droid. Not much overall difference in performance. iPhone tends to have a bit longer battery life, droid seems to operate a tiny bit faster. Can't really go wrong

Are you talking about the new Evo LTE? I hate the names because the previous one was the HTC Evo 4G which I felt was a stupid name... amazing phone. The new one is called an HTC Evo 4G LTE which is even worse because it adds redundancy to obviousness but it's an even better phone. That's what I'm currently using and it's a friggin stallion.

Your Mac should have an app called “image capture” try using that to retrieve your photos.

I don't know anything about Mac's, but your phone is 5 years old, which is nearing antiquated status in the smartphone world, and could have something to do with the lack of communication between the two devices.

Android moved a few years ago to having the device and any external memory cards recognized as a media drive instead of regular external drive. You need an app on the Mac called Android File Transfer. When you launch that and connect to your GS4, you should see it show up in the Android File Transfr with different tabs for the phone's internal memory and the SD card.

Having the same problem with a Galaxy S9 and MacBook Pro. Used to be plug and play. Looking for a way for iTunes to read Samsung.
Seems all the "fixes" involve third party apps with limited results. Android File Transfer solves some problems but is not a complete fix.

Connecting iTunes on MacOS to a Galaxy S9 is a whole other problem. Why specifically iTunes? Trying to update your music or podcasts? For music, you can go directly to your Music folder and copy things over to your phone via AFT but I'm not awar of any connection between iTunes and Android. Your podcasts should be saved inside a subdirectory of Music so same process will work there, it's just very manual.
You probably need to enable the connection on your Android phone for file transfer. My old phones would automagically connect for file transfer and it was easy to see the "DCIM" folder for photos. When I connected my Note 8 last week, I had to specify that the connection could be used for file transfer, and I had to specifically select photos and videos as the file types.
ETA: That wasn't it.
Tried this at home and got the notification that if I wanted to transfer files to Mac OS X devices, you'll need Android File Transfer installed on the Mac.
https://www.android.com/filetransfer/
I confirmed that this works.

Ummm, Samsung does not read Apple Lossless. My iTunes is set to transfer AFF to 128BPS but does not read Samsung. Does not read/sync with iTunes.
