My guess is that this has already been posted, but have we ever considered a yearly meeting of people from coar15? I have already met half of you through deals from the trading post and gun shows, but it's usually for only 15 minutes at a time.

All I'm saying is we should hold a pancake breakfast and talk about guns and sh*t.

If you don't like pancakes or guns, don't even post in this thread cuz I don't want to look at you.

El Caballo Loco

They are literally the love child of red velvet cake and pancakes disguised as a breakfast food which semi removes the guilt and topped with some icing.

My friend, how is that not good?

When and where- That's where I think the mods need to come in and make the decision, if this thing should go down. They know and see all.

I have no idea what's best, or even if this can or would ever happen. If it did, maybe we could hold a big breakfast before the tanner gun show opens in denver, eat some pancakes then go check out some weaponry.

J
06-17-2012, 22:35
I have a few good ideas. Need to consult legal counsel on some first. Would love to do some swap meets, but have to see how that looks legally.

Also, after discussing with the team, I could at least look in to renting a shelter at a park in denver, grab a keg, dogs, brats, burgers and some kingsford for the grills at the shelter.

I'll grab some prices and ping ownership tomorrow to see if we can grab some traction on a regular meet. Maybe think about the swap meet as a long term possible goal.

Thoughts?

If we can all agree on the Potato Gun shoot (http://www.ar-15.co/forums/showthread.php?t=52700) we can do an earlier meet and greet and have breakfeast then make a day of it.

El Caballo Loco
06-17-2012, 22:39
If we met before the Tanner show then we would have to see each other after semi officially ending conversations at breakfast, thus leading into bumping at shoulders at the show and having to come up with funny quips like "hey, long time no see" and feeling awkward after the fact.

Ya see, you just saw the person, so that comment would be backwards. In all reality it should be "short time, much see" in situations like that. That's why its funny, ya see?

Absolutely. Need to check with legal council, but I think so long as nothing changing hands is legally a firearm or NFA item, it should be exempt from gun show regs, etc. So no lowers, cans , guns. Uppers, parts, accessories should be ok.

I say long term goal, as I want legal review if I am organizing, and blessing from site owners if I post it here. Nothing happening right away on this front.

The idea of a bbq sounds good. Somewhere secluded so we could show off and fondle others toys like we were coming from a sex doll forum or something.

If we did that, it would resemble a swap meet but I dont think, and im sure others would agree, that no matter how much it resembled a swap meet it would still just be a bunch of gun geeks hanging out. Right, right?

J
06-18-2012, 07:15
It would be good to have a beer or two with all of you gents if we do a BBQ. That would of course preclude bringing any fun toys to the event.

So I guess, when the time comes, we vote beer or guns at the event.

Well, on the topic of crepes, there is an excellent place out on the SW corner of Aurora (sadly far away for most of you).

Excellent crepes! Wife and I hit them up at least once a month. The owner is a classically trained chef who opened her own place.

well if you don't want to eat "crepes" because they're french then don't call them crepes. i grew up eating "blina" which is the germans from russia word for them. eastern europeans and russians call them "palacinky"

Anyone interested in camping? Car camping I mean, so we could bring a keg in of course.

If we go into national forest we could shoot with no problems. I know of a good spot near Rollinsville that's easy to get to and is huge so lots of guys could camp there.

I'd be willing to coordinate, give directions, etc.

I like it, but while I love this community, I don't know each and every person that might go. I would want some strict rules in place for safety. If we have a keg AND guns for some shooting, there would need to be strict no mixing alcohol and guns rules in place, and expect everyone to follow them to the letter.

Problem with the camping idea though, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but what is camping without a campfire? With this state-wide fire ban I would think that we're loosing a vital component to the whole camping experience... still would be fun, but I'd rather us be dimly lit by a nice fire to make Somores over instead of awkwardly lit by headlights... Just saying.[Beer]

Yep. It does suck. I'm on the fence about it. Helps keep me from paying taxes to put out wildfires. But it also keeps responsible groups from having managed camp fires.

Unfortunately, those idiots who light a fire that spreads ruin it for all of us.

I dont think it needs to have a bunch of rules and stuff.. I say we just bring up what we want to shoot, have a little "top shot" fun thing in the morning / early afternoon or something.

after that, we put the firearms away, and get out the cards and drinking games! lol..

if somebody got stupid, there are enough of us there to quietly explain that they need to straighten up. hahaha. we could even do it without "involving" the website if need be.

Then once a yr, we could plan a "whole family" meet for a camping/shooting/BBQ get together??

I can offer to host a north meet. Plenty of room at the shop to hang out.

Exceptions include- Fireplaces, standalone firepits (like what you have built professionally), campfires in the big metal ringed pits, grills, and stoves. So basically if it's in something built and designed to keep fires contained then it's okay, but your throw together dig a hole camp fire is specifically banned.

So technically we would still be able to have a fire, make smores, sing kum ba ya next to the fire, the whole bit. We would just need to bring up a fire pit, or two

As per the ban wording from Gov. Dickinpooper:

The ban does not apply to campfires in constructed, permanent fire pits or fire grates within developed camp and picnic grounds or recreation sites; liquid-fueled or gas-fueled stoves; fireplaces contained within buildings; charcoal grills at private residences; or specific prescribed or controlled burns for agricultural or irrigation purposes.
Take that to mean what it means- I would consult a county Sheriff's office or perhaps Forest Service official to get clarity on how to go about it. I would think if you brought up a cast iron ring (like 2-3 ft in diameter and 2ft tall) to somewhere like Squaw Pass or South Site it would be legit, but don't quote me on that. If need be, I can take any suggestions to the chief of the Evergreen Fire Department and see if they're allowable, he's a good friend of our family.

If you could ask that would be great. Even if it does not pertain to the get together now, I'm sure others may want to know for themselves if they decide it's worth it to pack one up

I think that definition would have to be more specific, or clarified. I personally read and define that as a camp ground that you would typically pay to get into/use. But it could also mean anywhere that's been used as a campsite ever, paid or not (middle of no where)

I don't know you, and you don't know me. I've been around long enough to have situations arise that I really didn't want to be in.

My opinion: anyone attending should be a responsible adult. As such, they should be able to read and agree to a small, specific set of rules. Until we all know each other well enough that we know everyone will follow common sense, rules should be established. Maybe after we have been doing it for a while common sense can prevail. Here and now, I will only attend and participate if rules are spelled out before hand, and everyone is expected to follow them absolutely.

Well as far as the rules are concerned I'm pretty sure it mainly is allowing for developed camp sites with permanently place fire pits. As far as I would go and suggest, and I know what the chief is going to say: "Why would you even consider a fire with these dry conditions?" I would just err on the side of caution and say even if it's a legitimate and allowed fire pit I wouldn't even try it. One ember and you could be responsible for another Hayman type situation. I would suggest that no one do anything involving fire outside of a grill or your home until we get a lot more moisture and they lift the fire ban (don't plan on that happening until late fall/early winter).

Like I said, no worries.

Everyone else is welcome to meet in whatever situation they are comfortable with. I spoke of what would make me comfortable. If that isn't good for y'all, then no hair off my back. Meet up and have a grand time. That's the beauty of a free country. I have two options: 1) suggest what makes me comfortable, and then join in the fun if that is followed. 2) Wish you all a good time if the format isn't in my comfort zone.

Either way, I'm glad there is interaction on the board, and that we all have the freedom to congregate, meet, discuss and act on our beliefs.

So....... What if we find someone to host a north meet, and someone to host a south meet. Could meet maybe once or twice a yr. That puts Denver guys in the middle to choose from north or south or add a third central location. Is this to confusing???

Then once a yr, we could plan a "whole family" meet for a camping/shooting/BBQ get together??

I can offer to host a north meet. Plenty of room at the shop to hang out.

Just throwing it out there!

Man, maybe for a big first "meet and greet" we should just keep it real simple. Like BBQing in a park and BSing, playing frisbee, volleyball, and all that stuff. No hackey-sack though. [LOL]

All we'd have to do is pick a time/date and show up. Everyone bring a few things (pack of hot dogs, a few burgers, 12 pack of pop, bag-o-chips, whatever). If somone wanted to get the permit or whatever so we could have a keg, that would be awesome, but not totally necessary (I would prefer this though [Beer]).
No rules or contracts required.

If it goes well, the next one could get more involved with shooting at a range or camping, etc. Just my $0.02. Looking forward to whatever gets planned. [Ban3]

I vote for this [Luck]

Nice and simple, not have to worry about mixing toys with beverages, rules (yet) etc. Just a nice easy going bbq...not to say we couldn't do anything more advanced later. Also get a chance to bring the family out as well

I didnt read all 8 pages but given a reasonable for me location (ie. 30ish minute drive) I would be down to meet some of the folks here and put faces to names.

How about Chatfield Res? A beach would be cool as hell! Plus guys with boats could show off a little. Fishing, biking trails,....

Crap - I just checked it out. "No charcoal grills..." Propane only. [Rant1]

Chatfield would be cool. With Hickinlooper's statewide fire ban, I don't think charcoal is allowed anywhere.

I guess a few of us could bring a propane grill to Chatfield. Not that big a deal.

My guess is that several forum members have a pickup and it would be "fairly easy" to strap down their grill and bring it. I don't have a pickup, but I have a trailer. I volunteer to bring mine. And I'm quite a grillmaster, I might add. [Beer]

ETA: only 2, maybe 3 grills would be needed. I don't anticipate 250 members showing up, but who knows.

I would likely come down. My folks are that way. I went to Chatfield High School, so I grew up just around the corner. And still only 30 min away.

Southwest Denver area.

Here you go: Chatfield Res (http://www.parks.state.co.us/Parks/Chatfield/MapsandDirections/Pages/ChatfieldMapsandDirections.aspx)

It's not THAT far from Loveland. You could camp for the night with the fam and make a weekend of it.

We have the location, but no date yet... I'm G2G with Chatfield- It's only about 10min from my place... I take it that showing off our toys would be ill-advised? I've seen some pictures here and I really like what some of you are sporting in your safe!

With as many boating accidents as we've all had.. are you sure you should bring a boat?

Very true, remember kids, don't lose your guns due to a horrible boating accident, keep your firearms on dry land! [Flower]
